On this episode of “Strange Bedfellows,” we get a report from our friend Scott Ritter, who just returned from a goodwill mission to #Russia. Scott tells us about the battle of #Stalingrad in #WWII, and his recent visit to the war memorial in modern-day #Volgograd (the former Stalingrad). Scott’s crew took some amazing footage of The Motherland Calls monument at night which evokes the souls of the tens of thousands who were laid to rest here. (Many of the dead are still unidentified, 80 years later.) The Motherland Calls (Russian: Родина-мать зовёт!, tr. Rodina-mat’ zovyot!) is the compositional centre of the monument-ensemble “Heroes of the Battle of Stalingrad” on Mamayev Kurgan in Volgograd, Russia. The statue is designed in the Soviet style of #socialist realism. It was created by sculptor Yevgeny Vuchetich and structural engineer Nikolai Nikitin, and declared the tallest statue in the world in 1967. At 85 m (279 ft), it is the tallest statue in Europe, the tallest in the eastern hemisphere outside of Asia and the tallest statue (excluding pedestals) of a woman in the world. If pedestals are included, that title belongs to the Statue of Liberty in New York. Ritter had a once-in-a-lifetime visit to #Russia. These memories will stick with him forever. Tara Reade was a Senate staffer to President Joe #Biden in the early 1990s. She accuses Biden of sexually assaulting her all those years ago. When Reade went public with her accusation during the 2020 election campaign, she was shunned and attacked by the Democratic Party-controlled establishment media. But now it appears that Reade is being targeted for criminal prosecution by the president she exposed. Reade has sought sanctuary in Russia after being warned by Congressman Matt Gaetz that she would not be safe if she returned to the United States. Reade has been told that her life is in danger, and is asking the Russian government to grant her political asylum and citizenship. Radha Stirling, CEO of Due Process International, speaking on behalf of Tara Reade, issued the following statement: “No one should misrepresent the situation Ms. Reade is in. She is, practically speaking, in exile. This is not by choice, nor is it her preference. Ideally, Tara would be safe to return to the United States, to her daughter, to her home, and be allowed to live her life free from harassment, threats, and intimidation. She is in Russia today precisely because she does not have that safety or freedom in America; not while the Biden Administration remains intent on keeping her silent."
