A Day In The Shop 4/14/2022
Today we finish the Weld Fusion Overlay, I straighten the shaft before skimming the weld build up, down to size and blending with the stock dimension again. I emphasize on the need to have both sides of the build up running true before the final step of blending.

A Day In The Shop 4/13/2022
Weld Fusion Overlay Is a Process some are unaware of, the possibility in saving your wore out shaft from replacement, even more now that marine shafting has taken a 50% hike since last April 1st. This process can even make your shaft a cadent for a dripless system once again. Weld fusion overlay is build up of base material rather than what they call flame spray which is a coating process. Today I share the build up and first couple skim cuts I perform before calling it a day.

Single handed I stick a 3 inch shaft, 244" long, into the clausing lathe, prep the area for the Weld Fusion Overlay process, layout and two pieces to be cut to fill in the final shape on the S/S skeg we have been working on and finish with the broaching of the new coupling.

A Day In The Shop 4/7/2022
Shitten and a Getten on some chips, then head off for a field trip down to fit up the S/S skeg we have been fabricating, ending with a little shape shifting on a plate of S/S to crate the radius angled section wrapping behind the pintle bearing area on the skeg.

Machining Glass Tubes Follow Up
What are stern Tubes? and how do you center the part in your boring jig? Just a couple of the questions asked during the starting video of this project and I wanted to give a couple answers. We take and finish the machining of the tube faces and drill and tap for S/S heli-coils and finish the install with our threaded cutlass bearing practice or procedure we have been doing now for at Least 20 years now. We have to give thanks to the "Greek" on this one! LOL well know fisherman on the cape here.

Machining Spherical Ends
Sure sometimes machining Spherical object in the Machine Shop are for smooth feels like, knobs and handles, but some spherical shapes are for strength and to reduce stress risers in fabrications. So I put together this video to share how I use the tracer attachment to add a spherical end to a part which will be welded into another component to become the final product. More about the tracer attachment can be found in my earlier video's like Trace It .

Machining Glass Tubes
Some Machine projects are way longer than your machines and or larger than the hole inn the head stock or the length of your mill table, here are a few tips on how I deal with those issues while machining glass tubes for a propulsion system.

Anchors Away!
Anchors away, Life leads you down different avenues and sometimes the change takes time to get it all worked out, during which most of the fun can be sucked out of certain activities you really have enjoyed, one for me was editing videos as I create the shop time, I record to share with all my viewers.
I have finally dropped that anchor and back in the happy place once again, lets get the show back on the road and make video great again!

Trick Fuck The Nut
Sometimes when you have an item you need to re-machine and it was manufactured in a production process , you may need to be a little creative in setting it up to do just that and on this project we need to trick fuck the nut and its location when being chucked up in a three jaw chuck.
In the later part of this video we share a few highlights of the Bar Z Summer Bash, who won the 4 Jaw competitions and our trip to California, visiting my home town.

Buffy's Back Part Five
We are back on the refurbishing of our 1970 Bridgeport mill, all starting with replacing the spindle bearings. We pick back up where we were, assembling the fresh painted components of the basic body of Buffy. Part Five we copy the shape of the shaft needed to be replaced, which controls the Z axis, after pulling the one out of Debbie we create a drawing and start the machining process to replicate one by using the samples at hand.
