Trying out the Sega licensed games on the Sega Mega Drive Classics collection for the PC. I am using a USB Sega Saturn clone controller to recreate the original feel as much as possible. There is a bunch of games I haven't even tried yet in the collection, so I'm going to go through it and at least give them a try today and see what I might be interested in doing a full play through of in the future.

Phantasy Star 2 for the Sega Genesis. This one is from the Sega Mega Drive Classics collection for PC, and is being played with a USB Sega Saturn controller to emulate the original feel as much as possible. There was a small collection of games that came with my Dreamcast back in the day, and this was on it, but I never got very far in the game. Thirteen year old me just wasn't in to it. StarTropics for the NES. I'm playing on my original NES. We played this one in my family quite a lot when I was younger. I don't know that it was me who beat the game, but I played the game and saw the ending when I or one of my siblings beat the game. It was quite a long time ago. I had a lot of fun back then, and I think it'll be fun now. Also, there's a sequel I know nothing about that I'd also like to play, and I figure I should for sure beat the first one before reaching for the second.

It's my birthday, and I'm just going to hang out and have fun. I start with Metroid and see how I do, and then move on from there.

Shining In The Darkness for the Sega Genesis. This one is from the Sega Mega Drive Classics collection for PC, and I am playing on a USB Sega Saturn controller to replicate the original feel as much as possible. I know little about this game. It's from the same creators as Shining Force, so I'll probably like it just fine. Picking up where I left off in RS:39

It's from the same creators as Shining Force, so I'll probably like it just fine.

I started playing this one during RS:28. After I was interrupted by the presence of a guest who I thought was going to be there in another hour and a half, I threw myself in the drink to get a save code. Today, I load that save code and continue!

Final Fantasy © Square Enix. The Material Usage Policy is not uniform across all Final Fantasy Games, and is taken on a game by game basis as determined by © Square Enix. It took me a long time to figure out if I could even do a stream of the Final Fantasy games, and there are restrictions, but none that should stop me from playing them. Permission is given to use the game if a fully functional legally owned, unaltered, copy of the game is used and it is made clear that whoever is doing such a thing post the "© Square Enix" bit to let everyone know they don't own any rights to the game and are not affiliated in any way with the company that made the game. That should be a given at this point, but whatever, that's their user agreement, so here it is: "I don't own this game or any rights to it and am in no way affiliated with © Square Enix. I played 7 on PC, lost interest and never beat it, and I played the 3d remake of 3, also on PC, also lost interest and never beat it. So this will be my first experience with this game. There is a remake available for FF 1-6 on Steam, but they changed things, and I think the people who want to see me play this game will want to see it in it's original form. I am playing the NES version of the game on my original NES. Picking up where I left off in RS:35.

Sonic Spinball for the Sega Genesis. This is the copy in the Sega Mega Drive Classics collection, and I'm playing with a USB Sega Saturn Controller to replicate the original feel as much as possible. Feeling a little ill and tired today, so I'm not doing a longer project and taking it easy. Never played this game before in my life. Hopefully it's fun.

Donkey Kong Country for the SNES. I own a physical copy of this game, and I am playing it off of a Super Nintendo Jr, or Mini, or what ever. I remember playing bits and pieces of this game at a PX or a BX where they were on display, but never played the whole game. Hopefully it'll be good times. My brother also had Donkey Kong Land for Gameboy, and I played that, so I'm not completely unfamiliar, but all of this was long ago. This'll basically be my first time being able to sit and work at it for however long it takes.

Streets of Rage (and Streets of Rage 2, ended up playing both) from the Sega Genesis/Master System. This is a legal copy of the game in the Mega Drive Master Collection for the PC, and I'm playing with a USB Sega Saturn controller to emulate the original feel as much as possible. I thought I played this game once, but after this livestream it turned out I played Streets of Rage 2 back then. That was circa 1999, so yeah, it's been a while. It was good times.

Sonic 2 for the Sega Genesis originally released in 1992. This copy is from the Sega Mega Drive Classics collection for PC and I'm playing with a USB Sega Saturn controller to emulate the original feel as much as possible. I grew up with this game. I've beaten it about three or four times, but haven't really played it since I was a teenager. After not doing too well with the original Sonic The Hedgehog, I'm curious to play this one again and see if I'm just rusty in general or if the original is in fact harder for me to play.

The original Sonic The Hedgehog from 1991 for Sega Genesis/Master System. This one is being played on the Sega Mega Drive Classics for the PC with a USB Sega Saturn controller to emulate the original feel of the game as much as possible. It's not perfect, but it comes close. Believe it or not, even though we had a SEGA Genesis in the house my entire childhood, we never had this game. We had the sequel, Sonic 2 with Tails, but not this, the original. I messed around with it briefly and determined I'm really bad at this and kind of miss the added functionality of the Sonic 2 controls, so I'm probably going to mess up plenty for this one.

Shining Force from the Sega Genesis, originally released in 1992. This one is being played on the PC version of the Sega Mega Drive Classics with a clone USB Sega Saturn Controller to replicate the original feel as much as possible. The SMDC is a commercial emulator for a select volume of SEGA games. It's not perfect, but it's pretty close, and it's a commercially available legal copy of all games in the collection. Since SEGA has streamer friendly user agreements, this combo makes SMDC games a good, inexpensive place to enjoy those Sega Genesis titles. I'm going to go as far as I can make my old body go on this one. I know it's a longer game, but I'm not sure how long so I'm hoping I can knock it out in a day or two. (Part 2, see RS:29 for part 1.)
