Mountain Man Triathlon | Fire Lighting Challenge: Impossible?
In this video, we take a trip to Coal Creek for a good, old-fashioned "Mountain Man" competition. Competitors participate in the course of fire using their flintlocks and tomahawks, but intermixed are mountain man survival challenges like setting a trap, starting a fire, and casting ball.
Competitors are timed and their hits are scored to decide who goes home a winner.
In all seriousness, this is a friendly competition and an in-depth look at a classic muzzleloading match, lovingly called "The Mountain Man". Unlike a regular "stand and shoot" competition, mountain man competitions test your accuracy, endurance, and strength all at once.
Fire kits will be soaked, fingers will be pinched, beards will be singed.

Hawken Expert Bob Woodfill Details the Hawken Shop Hawken Muzzleloader Kit | Advanced Hawken Rifle
Today we're talking with Hawken Expert, Bob Woodfill about his thoughts on the "Hawken Shop's" S Hawken Muzzleloader kit.
Bob Woodfill is a longtime friend of mine, when he wrote his book "The Hawken Rifle; Its Evolution from 1822-1870" I saw Bob's scholarly side and his willingness to share his research. In 2021 Bob became fascinated with doing whatever he could to spread his love of the Hawken rifle with muzzleloading enthusiasts everywhere. The success of his book brought Hawken fans of all kinds to his doorstep and he wanted to do more to give back.
When it comes to Hawken rifles, the original pieces are so valuable, many of us, including Bob will probably never own one. Masterful recreations can fetch $10,000+, and very historically accurate kits can fetch $1500-$3000 depending on how you complete them. Bob reached out to me wanting to understand how someone with a limited budget could enjoy the Hawken rifle. When asked my mind immediately went to the Hawken kits I've built over the years. The first is the Traditions, St. Louis Hawken. Comically, Bob advised me on the build of this kit several years ago and had the same thing to say today, "It's a fine kit but there's not extra you can do with the kit". Bob was looking for an affordable, semi-accurate kit that could be finished to be a more accurate recreation of the Hawken Rifle.

.54 Caliber Blackpowder Pistol Ballistic Gel Test | Slow Motion
Today we're on the range with our InvestArm Plains PIstol testing it's penetration and stopping power with some ballistic gel. In this test, we shoot this.54 caliber pistol several times into the ballistic gel block using GOEX 3F black powder.
I try 4 different powder chargers in this test, 15, 20, 25, and 30 grains.
This video includes slow-motion footage of the groundball hitting the ballistic gel at 240 frames per second.

Travel back in time as we travel to coal creek to visit the long hunters camped for the weekend. This flintlock only shoot is in the backwoods of the midwest, the perfect place to leave the modern world behind and burn some blackpowder with friends.
This is a small, private event hosted by Eli F. on his family farm. Events like this are the backbone of muzzleloading around the United States and have preserved the sport for hundreds of years.
In this video, I finally get my Kibler Southern Mountain Rifle out to shoot and have some fun!
