Don't get ripped off Mercury 115hp inline 6 water pump
Swapping out the water pump on a 1989 Mercury 115hp with an inline 6-cylinder engine is a straightforward process. On my website, hawkeyemarine.net, I offer a high-quality water pump alternative that, despite not being a Mercury or Quicksilver pump, rivals or even surpasses the original in terms of performance. I have personally tested this pump on my 2013 Mercury 250 ProXS, accumulating over 100 hours of use without any decline in pumping efficiency.
In fact, the durability and reliability of this water pump have impressed me to the point that I plan to replace it soon, not out of necessity but as a precautionary measure. The cost-effectiveness of these pumps makes them an attractive option, providing significant savings without compromising on quality. Choosing a product that matches or exceeds the standards set by the original manufacturer is a wise investment in both performance and budget.

Navigating the Frustration removing the Gearcase from Your Outboard Motor
This gearcase is a from a 1989 Mercury 115hp outboard. I have it on my engine stand while my customer is restoring his boat. I have not seen his boat. You could use more force on the gearcasee if it was attached to the boat, but I use a few hacks to get the gearcase off. Has some added footage of me running my Champion bass boat.
Hope this help!

1989 Mercury 35hp motor with a bad power pack I believe
A 1989 Mercury 35hp outboard that has loss of power. The coils are good and it runs but has lose of power at higher RPM's. I ultrasonically cleaned the carb. I even swapped the carb with one that I have. The still had the same issue. In a future video I plan on checking the timing pointer. I may suggest that the power pack be replaced. At first, I thought this maybe a fuel issue. Now I believe its the power pack. The Trigger, Stator and power pack are very old. Probably needs replaced. But if they aren't broken then why replace them.

1959 Johnson 5 1/2 hp seahorse dual fuel line connector repair
Restoring a 1956 Johnson 5 1/2 hp Seahorse equipped with a dual fuel line connector. The engine boasts strong compression and spark. I've recently swapped out the fuel line leading to the sediment bowl. However, there's a persistent issue with the fuel connector at the fuel tank, where a leak occurs around the gasket. The only viable solution involves removing the brass fitting, which requires some forceful tapping with a hammer.

Testing the ignition on a 1977 Chrysler 35hp outboard
Testing the ignition on a 1977 Chrysler 35hp outboard motor involves a few steps to ensure that the electrical system is working properly. Here's a general guide to help you with the process:
Safety First:
Ensure the boat is in a well-ventilated area, and the outboard motor is secured on the boat.
Make sure the boat's fuel supply is turned off, and there are no gas leaks or fumes.
Battery and Connections:
Check the battery's condition and make sure it's properly connected.
Inspect the battery terminals for corrosion and clean them if necessary.
Key Switch:
Insert the key into the ignition switch.
Turn the key to the "Off" position if it's not already there.
Kill Switch:
Ensure the kill switch (emergency stop switch) is properly connected. It should be securely fastened to your wrist or clothing.
Fuel System:
Check that the fuel tank has enough fuel for testing.
Open the fuel tank vent.
Choke (if applicable):
If your outboard motor has a choke, ensure it's in the appropriate position for starting (usually "choke" or "start" position).
Gear Position:
Ensure the gear lever is in neutral.
Throttle:
Set the throttle to a low position (idle).
Starting Procedure:
Turn the key to the "On" position.
If your outboard motor has a manual starter, pull the starter cord briskly. If it's an electric starter, press the start button or turn the key to the "Start" position.
Listen for the engine to crank or start. If it doesn't start, troubleshoot potential issues like fuel delivery, spark plugs, or ignition system problems.
Listen and Observe:
Listen for the sound of the engine cranking or running.
Observe the telltale water stream at the back of the outboard. It should be flowing steadily, indicating that the cooling system is working.
Shutting Down:
If the engine starts, allow it to run for a short period, then shut it down by turning the key to the "Off" position.
Troubleshooting:
If the engine doesn't start or has issues, you may need to check spark plugs, fuel lines, carburetor, or the ignition system for problems. Consult your owner's manual or seek professional help for further diagnosis and repair.
Remember that safety is paramount when working with any mechanical equipment, especially boats and outboard motors. If you're not experienced in working on outboard motors, it's a good idea to consult a professional mechanic for assistance with any issues you may encounter.

Testing Ignition Coils on the Mercury 250 Pro XS Optimax Outboard Motor Part 2
Testing the ignition coil and spark plug wires on a Mercury 225 Proxs Optimax outboard. These have a 5 pin connector for the ignition coil. This will be the same for any 5 pin ignition coil Optimax outboards by Mercury.
Testing the ignition coils on a Mercury 250 Pro XS Optimax outboard motor is an essential part of diagnosing and troubleshooting ignition system issues. If you suspect a problem with the ignition coils, you can follow these steps to test them:
Note: Before you begin testing, ensure that the ignition is off, and the battery is disconnected to prevent any accidental starts.
Tools and Equipment Needed:
Multimeter (digital or analog)
Socket set or wrenches
Spark plug socket and spark plug gap tool
Step 1: Safety Precautions
Ensure that the outboard motor is in neutral and the emergency stop switch is pulled out to disable the ignition.
Disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shocks or accidental engine starts.
Step 2: Locate the Ignition Coils
On the Mercury 250 Pro XS Optimax, the ignition coils are typically located on top of the cylinder head or cylinder block near the spark plugs. You may need to remove any covers or components to access them.
Step 3: Remove Spark Plugs
Use a spark plug socket and wrench to remove the spark plugs from the cylinders. This will make it easier to test the ignition coils.
Step 4: Test the Primary Circuit
Set your multimeter to the ohms (Ω) setting.
Connect one probe to the positive terminal of the ignition coil and the other probe to the negative terminal. You should read a low resistance value, typically around 0.5 to 3 ohms, depending on the specific coil.
If the resistance is significantly higher or lower than the expected range, it may indicate a problem with the coil's primary winding, and the coil may need replacement.
Step 5: Test the Secondary Circuit
Set your multimeter to the kilo-ohms (kΩ) setting.
Connect one probe to the center terminal of the ignition coil (where the spark plug wire connects) and the other probe to either the positive or negative terminal (whichever you didn't test in the previous step).
You should read a high resistance value, typically in the range of 5,000 to 15,000 ohms, depending on the coil.
If the resistance is significantly higher or lower than the expected range, it may indicate a problem with the coil's secondary winding, and the coil may need replacement.
Step 6: Repeat for Each Coil
If your outboard motor has multiple ignition coils (which it likely does), repeat steps 4 and 5 for each coil.
Step 7: Reinstall Spark Plugs
After testing all the ignition coils, reinstall the spark plugs and tighten them securely.
Step 8: Reconnect the Battery
Reconnect the boat's battery.
Step 9: Test the Engine
Start the engine and check for any improvement in engine performance. If the ignition coils were the source of the problem, the issue should be resolved.
If you find that one or more ignition coils have failed the resistance tests, it is recommended to replace the faulty coil(s) with new ones. Make sure to use genuine Mercury replacement parts for optimal performance and reliability. If the issue persists after replacing the coils, consider consulting a certified marine mechanic or technician for further diagnosis and repair

Mercury 115hp inline 6 cylinder compression test
Doing a compression test on a late 1980's Mercury 115hp outboard. I will have several repairs on this motor. I ordered two new power packs. The engine had spark on #1 & #3 but then I lost it. I had consistant spark on #5 and #6. I will also put a new rectifier on it, clean the carbs, do water pump.
We have the remote shifter as well but it needs a new switch. Its missing the key and the switch does not have a key number on it. So, it will need that as well.
As always Thanks for watching!

Mercontrols switch repair style 1960's 70's 80's Mercury shifter box Pt2
Repairing an ignition switch on a Mercury remote shifter that was from the 1960's through the 1980's. Mercontol Rewire the ignition switch. This is if you can't find a new ignition switch. Which they are getting harder to find.
Typically the connections with solder that needs a very high heat. Most of solder guns of today do not heat to a temperature for this old solder. What you can do is what I have done here is soldered to the wire that was left. If you heat the switch with prolonged heat it destroys the it.
So, if I cannot find a new old stock switch I repair the old one this way. Either way you are going to need a solder gun that gets hot.
Hope this helps.

Definitely better hose than you can buy on Amazon. Not all hose is the same. This line a certification.
