Georgian Banov on Our Indestructible Heredity
As sons and daughters of God, we have His very own life and presence in us:
“For you are the sons of God now; the live, permanent Word of the living God has given you his own indestructible heredity” (1 Peter 1:23 Phillips).
The indwelling presence of the crucified Savior makes us brave. His perfect love drives out fear, and His grace helps us to believe that we are more than conquerors. His fullness of joy gives us all the strength that we need to defy the threats of the enemy, and we rejoice knowing that nothing can ever snatch us from the Father’s hand.

*LYRICS*
Pioneer, Pioneer
Keep pressing onwards beyond your fears
And only your Father goes before you to your own frontier
You're a Pioneer
[Verse 1]
Uncharted wilderness stretches before you
And you thrive on going where no one has gone
Still it gets lonely when darkness rears
So sing by the fire until the dawn
[Chorus]
[Verse 2]
You travel light and you travel alone
And when you arrive nobody knows
But your Father in heaven, He is glad you can go
Cause those who come after you will need the road
[Chorus]
[Verse 3]
And what you have done, others will do
Bigger and better and faster than you
But you can?t look back, you gotta keep on pressing through
There?s a wilderness pathway and it?s calling you
[Last chorus]
Calling you, calling you
Keep pressing onwards beyond your fears
And only your Father goes before you to your own frontier
You're a Pioneer

Joy is not an option, it's essential
Talking with Randy Bohlender of Modern Day we discuss the fact that joy is not an optional add-on, like something from the dessert menu. It's vital, it's essential.
The Apostle Paul exhorts us to rejoice in the Lord always (not just during the good times).
God’s joy is, in fact, for every season, and it is especially for our hardest of times—that is exactly when we need His joy the most. Joy is His strength to endure (see Nehemiah 8:10).

God’s Secret Weapon for Every Believer
Talking with Randy Bohlender, I tell how the Lord took me into His throne room where I witnessed ecstatic joy when I was first saved. Lightnings were flashing from His throne and hitting all of the angels who could barely handle all of the pleasure. Their wriggling and fluttering swelled with every jolt they received from Him. I had never read the Bible, of course, and no one ever told me about Psalm 16:11 which says, “In Your presence is fullness of joy; in Your right hand there are pleasures forever.”
Heaven is a wildly happy place, and God found a way to put heaven inside of our spirits here on earth. By staying in His presence, the joy of the Lord fills us and keeps us elevated so that we can see even the biggest obstacles from His perspective, just like Joshua and Caleb who viewed the giants as insignificant grasshoppers in comparison to God’s superior power.

Discovering God as my Father
In this continuing conversation with Randy Bohlender, I share how God introduced Himself to me as my Father.
“Georgian, you’ve been a great servant. You’ve also worshiped Me beautifully and from your heart. You’ve been a good soldier too, you take orders well. That’s all good, and we’ll keep all of that."
He continued, “but now Georgian, I want you to know Me as your Father.”
With that last sentence, I froze. Since I never had a relationship with my earthly father, I had no idea what to do and I felt extremely awkward.
The Lord continued, “Georgian, the problem is that you always feel like you need to do something. But in this case, you cannot do anything to become My son. Fathers and mothers make their sons and daughters; children don’t make themselves for their parents. Spiritually, it’s the same way. Through Jesus, you became My son.
When you accepted My Son’s sacrifice, you became born again. You were
born from Me. I gave you a brand-new life and a new heart. Your new existence and your identity now come from Me. I’m pleased with you from the start because I made you, and you are Mine.”
I was still silent and then He said, “Georgian, since you’re so into doing something, how about a hug?”
“But, God,” I said, “You are huge! How can I hug You?” He said to me, “Don’t worry, I’ll size down. Just reach out and hug Me.”
As I started hugging, I could sense my arms going around His neck and then His arms embracing me and squeezing me tight.
All of a sudden, something happened. All of my fears and insecurities were squeezed right out of me. In that moment, in the absence of all of those things that held me back, all that I could feel was pure love. There was so much love I felt as if I was swimming in it.

Discovering God’s Friendship
In this conversation with Randy Bohlender, I share how we didn’t easily give our trust to too many in a communist society; friendships were rare and precious. To be able to speak openly and share your heart with someone without fear of someone reporting you to the government was a very big deal.
After making my way to California as a young immigrant, I had a radical encounter with the living God. All of my life I had been brainwashed to believe that God doesn't exist. The communists had lied about everything; it should have dawned on me that they would lie about God too.
Because I understood what true friendship is and had a great value for it, the Lord began my new walk with Him by introducing me to His friendship first. Reading through the Psalms for example, I came to realize that David was a friend of God. The Lord did not strike David with lightning or quit on him during some of David’s emotional turbulence. I began to see how rich in mercy God was, and that His kindness and goodness was inexhaustible. Just like David, I, too, began to speak with Him like a friend.
While I continued to study the Bible systematically, chapter by chapter, I also took time to read and pray the psalms every day. I found myself being secured into a wonderful friendship with a loving God, who in His compassion would hear and answer whenever I cried out to Him.

When Communism Collapsed it was Euphoric
In November 1989, East Berlin’s Communist party began dismantling the Berlin Wall. There was no way that I could have known it, but that event would lead to the collapse of the Iron Curtain. In the months ahead, riots and unrest began to spread throughout Eastern Europe.
On Christmas Day, the news came that Communism was falling. Romania’s dictator, Nicolae Ceaușescu, and his wife, Elena, were taken outside and shot by a firing squad. The Romanian people were revolting in the streets; they had had enough of his tyranny and cruelty.
Every half hour, as the news was cycled over and over again, the sound bite that “the Antichrist died on Christmas Day” was played. I was glued to my television, and watched the news for ten hours straight; I could not get enough.
The General Secretary of the Bulgarian Communist Party, dictator Tudor Zhivkov, was arrested just weeks later and then in February, the Bulgarian Communists officially relinquished their power.
Never dreaming that their grip on Bulgaria would come to an end, I walked around in shock and awe for days. Communism had collapsed. But the Lord had prepared me, and I already had my airline ticket.
Within weeks, I was standing in the euphoria filled streets of Sofia. My rock and roll friends placed me on the stage before two-hundred thousand people who were chanting “freedom” over and over again in the city square. Coming from America, they handed me the microphone and asked me to tell the people all about freedom. Of course, I told them about Jesus.
"Starting life in a brand-new country did not complete my escape. I often tell people that even though you could take me out of Communism, it was an entirely different matter to take Communism out of me! It was not until I gave my life to Jesus that I found the freedom, peace and joy that I had been yearning for."

My daring escape through the Iron Curtain
In this interview with Randy Bohlender I discuss growing up in communist Bulgaria. During my teens, my friends and I started Bulgaria’s first rock band but eventually the communists shut us down. That is when I decided to risk everything to be free which led me to my new life in the United States of America.
