Searching for an Underground Passage
Went looking for a second underground passage that would lead into another mine that is two miles away. The original passage that I found in 1999 was collapsed. On this trip we managed to gain access to the upper escape tunnel to the other mine, but the rest of the passage was collapsed.

Gold Mine and Cave Shelter
In a lonely canyon that no one visits, hides a gold mine along with a small camp which dates from 1911. At the mouth of the canyon is a prehistoric cave shelter which looks to have also been used by the prospectors in the region. Now, it is home to birds and bats. #prehistoric #mine #historic #explore #abandoned #decay #ruins #desert #deserttrails

Ibex Spring - Moorehouse Mine - Part 2
This is part two of the Ibex Spring area. The Moorehouse Mine is a very large talc mine that was discovered in the early 1930s and was in operation until the late 1960s.
If you want to learn more about the area, the Death Valley National Park has a really good history of the region and can be found at:

Amazing What One Comes Across When One Just Goes Exploring
Was out taking landscape photos when I stumbled across this small family mine. From the looks of buildings and equipment, the mine was not being worked anymore. Such a wonderful find because the buildings and equipment did not have bullet holes. #ruins #abandoned #decay #desert #explore #travel #Nevada #deserttrails

A Family Mine Where Mining was Second to Drinking
This was a small, family owned and operated mine. From the looks of the tunnel they did not produce much, but from the amount of whiskey, beer and wine bottles, they did drink a lot when up at the mine.

Ancient Rock Shelter Used for Centuries
On this journey I will take you to a ancient rock shelter which was used first by the early peoples, then by the Pauite and Shoshone when they arrived in the region around 1100CE and as late as 1930 when miners, who worked a local mine, used it as a home until the mine company built them a mining camp.

Abandon Family Ranch Hidden in the Mountains
Not far outside of Rhyolite Nevada is a small ranch from the 1920s hidden deep in a canyon. During the winter, the cattle were down in the valley while the family lived in Beatty. When summer came about, the whole family, along with their livestock, moved to the higher elevations and they lived at this little ranch.

Forgotten Gem of Sarcobatus Flat
Who ever travels Sarcobatus Flat following the old wagon road from either of its extremes and takes the time to cross this mass expanse, will feel as if they can see the end of the world. Hidden within this lonely land, is a lot of history dating from prehistoric to modern times. At the far north end lies Bonnie Claire Townsite and Mill. On this journey I will show you these sites along with giving a very brief history. Enjoy...

Gold Mine With a Unknown Past
Deep in a canyon sits this little corporate mine with an unknown past. Records are few and far between so there is no production totals of the mine. What is known is that it was a gold mine and the host rock was granite.

Hunting for Fossils in the Hills of Nevada
Took a friend and his three boys out looking for ammonite fossils in the Nevada Desert. This is a secret place and though the fossils are not really that great, or large, they are exciting for kids to find. You do get lucky sometimes and find a really nice specimen.

Unknown Mill Site Lost From History Hidden in Death Valley
The history of this site is lost to history, with only a small amount is known for certain. Hardly any tailings remain at the mill, so it is difficult to decipher what was processed or how much. No statistics of production are known to exist.
The site today is in tremendous condition, though not much remains of the mill. One of the best items that remains at this extraordinary picturesque locale is that of a 1946 Pontiac Streamliner with most of the fixtures till in place along with most of the flat-head inline 8 cylinder engine.

Long Forgotten Family Homestead Deep in the Nevada Mountains
Next to two springs high in the mountains, the Beck Ranch was used to raise Morgan horses. The cabin was built from railroad ties in 1941. The railroad ties came from the Tonopah and Tidewater which ceased operation in 1940. The ranch was in operation until the late 1960s.
