JUST AS I AM LYRICS
Just as I am without one plea,
But that Thy blood was shed for me,
And that Thou bidst me come to Thee,
O Lamb of God, I come! I come!
Just as I am and waiting not
To rid my soul of one dark blot,
To Thee, whose blood can cleanse each spot,
O Lamb of God, I come! I come!
Just as I am though toss'd about
With many a conflict, many a doubt,
Fightings and fears within, without,
O Lamb of God, I come! I come!
Just as I am Thou wilt receive,
Wilt welcome, pardon, cleanse, relieve;
Because Thy promise I believe,
O Lamb of God, I come! I come!

Forgive One Another | AS BOLD AS LIONS DEVOTIONAL | June 12, 2023
Forgive One Another | AS BOLD AS LIONS DEVOTIONAL | June 12, 2023
Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you. Ephesians 4:32
One of the hardest things we are called to do as a Christian is to forgive others who have wronged us. Some issues may seem minor and petty and in those cases, forgiveness may come easier as a believer. But what about the deep wounds we are called to forgive; the wrongs done to us that leave a profound hurt? What do we do with reconciliation when another person has not even asked for or desired it? It can become a subject to avoid at all costs. If it can just be buried somehow or swept under the rug, we can kick the can down the road for another day and maybe it will just go away. But outside of Christ, those hurts never truly heal.
Paul gives a clear charge in Ephesians 4 on this matter: forgive as Christ forgave you. Being we have been forgiven of much, we are also to forgive much. We are not to hold a record of wrongs (1 Corinthians 13:5) as Christ’s love compels us to love differently than this world. When we forgive and truly leave it in God’s hands, we relinquish our power and control over that situation and person. There is vulnerability and risk in forgiveness. But if we truly trust Jesus and want to live more like Him, we forgive as He forgave. We are grateful He does not hold our accounts over our heads. Because of His sacrifice, we are made free. Our forgiveness of someone else may be the spark that points them to Christ.
Question for today: Is there anyone in my life I am struggling to extend forgiveness to?
Pray: Jesus, You modeled to me what forgiveness looks like. Thank You. Help me today to model that same example to those I need to forgive.

The Holiness Standard | AS BOLD AS LIONS DEVOTIONAL | June 9, 2023
The Holiness Standard | AS BOLD AS LIONS DEVOTIONAL | June 9, 2023
You shall be holy to Me,for I theLordam holy and have separated you from the peoples, that you should be Mine. Leviticus 20:26
As ancient Israel prepared to enter the Promised Land ordained for them by God, there were many rules and statutes placed upon them. Moses received the Ten Commandments from the Lord. In addition, there were prescriptions for daily life that had to be followed. Some of these things may seem strange to us now but they were given with good reason and for the health and preservation of the people. With Jesus comes a new covenant which replaces the old covenant of the Old Testament. This did not, however, replace the need for everyone (Jews and Gentiles alike), to be holy and consecrated to the Lord.
1 Peter 1:15,16 echoes the words that were given to Moses and applies them to our new lives in Christ: “Butas He who called you is holy, you also be holyin all your conduct, since it is written,‘You shall be holy, for I am holy.’” The holiness we are called to is a standard that may seem daunting. We know only Jesus is perfect. But His holiness is an attribute we are to strive for as Christians. This applies to our daily lives just as it did to the Israelites. We model Christ through our words, speech, and actions. We consecrate ourselves to Him and honor Him as holy because He is. From there, God calls us His own; a redeemed people for His will and purpose. The holiness standard is for our good and His glory.
Question for today: In what ways am I called to live in holiness today which may look different than the world around me?
Pray: Lord thank You for the standard of holiness I see in Jesus. Help me to model Christ in my life today.

Hope For Eternity | AS BOLD AS LIONS DEVOTIONAL | June 7, 2023
Hope For Eternity | AS BOLD AS LIONS DEVOTIONAL | June 7, 2023
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you. 1 Peter 1:3,4
If we are completely honest, we experience despair in this life because we cling too tightly to this world. We see it as all there is when in reality,it’s a finite blip on the timeline of eternity. But if we are in Christ, we have a heavenly calling and reward. We must realize this life is not all that there is and not spend all of our time existing as if nothing else happens when we die. 1 Peter 1:3,4 is a reminder that we have an inheritance;not in this life but in the one to come. Unlike the things of this world that will pass away, our inheritance in heaven is imperishable.Glory to God!
Hope beyond this life is a spark that will sustain us even during the darkest times. We’ve experienced months and years that look unlike anything else most of us have ever seen in our lives. Brokenness, sickness, and depravity abound and are constant on our newsfeeds and headlines. And what we see now might only be a precursor of what is to come. But in Christ, we don’t allow the daily headlines to shake us. We continue to see beyond this life to know that which awaits us in heaven is what we were truly designed and created for. We can have hope for eternity.
Question for today: How am I reminding myself everyday that this world is not my home?
Pray: Jesus thank You for making a way for us to be saved and to have eternal life. May that hope be what sustains us even in the darkest days.

Being In His Presence | AS BOLD AS LIONS DEVOTIONAL | June 5, 2023
Being In His Presence | AS BOLD AS LIONS DEVOTIONAL | June 5, 2023
Blessed is the one You choose and bring near, to dwell in Your courts! We shall be satisfied with the goodness of Your house; the holiness of Your temple! Psalm 65:4
It is good to be in the presence of the Lord! It is a place our hearts should long for and yearn for. In His presence we are reminded of Who He is and who we are. Both things give a proper context to our relationship to our Heavenly Father. He is the perfect balance of love and justice. Mercy and righteousness. Grace and truth. Each time we are before Him we realize we are weak, small, and unable to walk on our own. But we see His strength and His might and it leads us to a place of fear and awe…a place that is good.
In Psalm 65 David starts out by giving the Lord praise. He is good and He is holy. David goes on to say that all creation is held together by the Lord. He establishes mountains, He stills roaring seas, He provides for crops and nourishes the land. It is Him Who holds it all together. In reading a passage like this, we are drawn once again to simply worship and acknowledge that the Lord is everything the word says about Him. We are compelled to want to know more about Him and seek Him beyond just a surface level. Today, may we be stirred to spend some time with Him just sitting at His feet in worship.
Question for today: No question for today but just urging us all to spend some time alone with the Father in prayer. Even just for 5-10 minutes; whatever can be spared.
Pray: Lord may I rest in Your presence today. Once again I want to know how great and awesome You are.

Fill Us Afresh | AS BOLD AS LIONS DEVOTIONAL | June 2, 2023
Fill Us Afresh | AS BOLD AS LIONS DEVOTIONAL | June 2, 2023
Will You not revive us again, that Your people may rejoice in You? Psalm 85:6
When we consider the state of the world today, the true saving element at work (between the time now and the end) is the Holy Spirit. He is in the lives of believers. He is in the church working and moving. At the point the rapture happens, the world truly will be a dark place. No longer will the presence of God be in the world in the way it is now…raptured saints will depart and leave a void that will lead to many to go down a path of hopelessness and despair.
We can forget and often minimize the work of the church and the power of what it actually means to be “spirit-filled Christians.” When we trust in Jesus, we are filled with His Spirit. This is such an amazing thought to consider and to know this power is at work within us. What we have too often relied upon is our own strength and abilities. As a church we have neglected the power of prayer meetings and altar calls. We have over-programmed to the point where we minimize the Spirit’s work. Our constant prayer today and everyday must be: fill us afresh, may we see a move in our day like no other!
Question for today: Am I tapped into the presence of the Holy Spirit each day and relying upon His direction for my life?
Pray: Fill us afresh O Lord! We need You Holy Spirit in order to impact this world.

Planting And Watering Seeds | AS BOLD AS LIONS DEVOTIONAL | May 31, 2023
Planting And Watering Seeds | AS BOLD AS LIONS DEVOTIONAL | May 31, 2023
I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth. So then neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth. Now the one planting and the one watering are one in purpose, and each will receive his own reward according to his own labor. 1 Corinthians 3:6-8
If the Gospel is a “seed,” some will receive it and some will reject it (we know this from the Parable of The Sower — Mark 4:1-20). For those who receive it, the seed will hopefully grow over time. But the return and the increase seen are not something we have control over. Indeed, we are tasked with the humble privilege of presenting Christ — in any and all circumstances. The saving is not done by us but by the Holy Spirit. He speaks through us and moves through us. As Paul mentions, the one planting the seed and the one watering are not to take responsibility for what the Lord alone can do; namely saving and sanctifying.
As important as planting the seed is walking alongside a new believer or convert in Christ. Discipleship is a big word that we sometimes trip up on. In a way, it is intentional mentoring of another person in the faith. One-on-one discipleship is a way that we can “water the seed” and help to foster its growth…again, this is all from the Lord. But we are commanded to do this. Our neglect of effective and continual discipleship has led to a generation of believers stunted in their growth and still consuming milk when they should be eating solid foods. Brothers and sisters, keep planting and watering! On this side of eternity, those things never cease.
Question for today: Where or when have you seen discipleship done effectively?
Pray: Lord I pray for discipleship to happen within the local church in such a way that those who hear the word and respond are led to completely follow You Jesus.

He Never Turns Us Away | AS BOLD AS LIONS DEVOTIONAL | May 29, 2023
He Never Turns Us Away | AS BOLD AS LIONS DEVOTIONAL | May 29, 2023
And He [Jesus] said to her, “Let the children be fed first, for it is not right to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs.” But she answered Him, “Yes, Lord; yet even the dogs under the table eat the children’s crumbs.” And He said to her, “For this statement you may go you way; the demon has left your daughter.” Mark 7:27-29
In His earthly ministry, Jesus had a pattern of meeting needs no matter what background or nationality a person had. He did make it clear that His coming was for Israel. His teachings and miracles were done to show the Jews that Messiah had come. By the end of His time, however, He commissioned His followers to take His message beyond just Jerusalem and Judea. It was to go to ends of the Earth. He had several encounters with Gentiles and through those He showed that His message was for everyone (such as the woman with a demon-possessed daughter in Mark 7). Jesus didn’t turn anyone away who actively sought Him.
We may have a certain need in our lives that we decide not to bother the Savior with. Maybe we believe it’s too small and beyond His care. Maybe we honestly are afraid to ask because we incorrectly assume He won’t answer. When we see the woman’s plea in Mark 7, we see someone with faith beyond a level we often display. She could have reasoned that being a Gentile or having a demon-possessed child were reasons that either disqualified her or were too big for Jesus to heal. But He answered her because she recognized He was able and willing. When we press into the Lord and ask for Him to intervene, we honor Him and He willingly receives us.
Question for today: What is one thing I’ve been afraid to ask God for because I don’t know if He will answer?
Pray: God help me not refuse ask — either for big or little things — because my faith is too small.

Do Not Worry About Tomorrow | AS BOLD AS LIONS DEVOTIONAL | May 26, 2023
Do Not Worry About Tomorrow | AS BOLD AS LIONS DEVOTIONAL | May 26, 2023
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. Matthew 6:34
Over the last few years, the very real uncertainty of things in our world can turn many into nervous creatures. Constantly before us is the path of fear or of faith. How do we not allow our thoughts in the natural override who we are in Christ? Jesus spent time in Matthew 6:25-34 addressing this very topic of anxiety. He knew that the things of life can consume us...much of it basic survival-type things (food, clothing, shelter). When we look at the world around us, we start to wonder if some of those things will be threatened.
Here’s what I believe happens as we trust Christ even in the midst of uncertainty: He takes care of us and He provides. We think it’s all up to us and we have to figure out the ends somehow. In reality, it is God Who makes a way through any season. I love the promise from Psalm 37:25:I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread. To me, this verse states very plainly, the righteous will be alright. No matter what tomorrow brings, God will not fail His people. He is good and cannot deny His own nature. We will not be forsaken!
Question for today: What specifically has you worried right now? How is the Lord calling you to lay aside that concern and trust Him?
Pray: God I thank You that each day is an opportunity to know Your peace and to not be afraid of tomorrow.

The Path Of A Disciple | AS BOLD AS LIONS DEVOTIONAL | May 24, 2023
The Path Of A Disciple | AS BOLD AS LIONS DEVOTIONAL | May 24, 2023
And calling the crowd to Him with His disciples, He said to them, “If anyone would come after Me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow Me.” Mark 8:34
To walk the path of a disciple of Christ means following in His steps in obedience. In Mark 8 Jesus lays out the steps He must take; a journey that will eventually take Him to the cross. There is pushback and outright rebuke as Peter pulls his Lord and Master aside. He bristles at the idea of Jesus suffering in such a way. But Jesus sets Peter straight: his mind is not on the things of God but on the things of man (Mark 8:33). Furthermore, in order to truly follow as a disciple one must not cling too tightly to his own life. To lose it for Christ’s sake would be to gain it.
We face this same tension day after day that the early disciples faced. In going down this road as believers, there is constant temptation to find an easier way especially when opposition inevitably comes. It seems it wasn’t until the disciples saw Jesus walk the path completely (from cross to tomb to resurrection), that they fully understood. On this side of history, we see the whole picture. What it means to be a disciple means denying ourselves and picking up the cross in surrender and obedience. When we do, Jesus promises to go with us and leads as a Good Shepherd.
Question for today: What parts of being a disciple (denying oneself, taking up the cross) are specifically difficult for me?
Pray: Jesus give me the ability to walk the path You have for me as Your disciple.

TURN YOUR EYES UPON JESUS LYRICS
O soul, are you weary and troubled?
No light in the darkness you see?
There’s light for a look at the Savior,
And life more abundant and free.
Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.
Through death into life everlasting
He passed, and we follow Him there;
O’er us sin no more hath dominion
For more than conqu’rors we are!
Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.
His Word shall not fail you, He promised;
Believe Him and all will be well;
Then go to a world that is dying,
His perfect salvation to tell!
Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.
Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.

The God Who Does Exactly What He Says He Will Do | AS BOLD AS LIONS DEVOTIONAL | May 22, 2023
The God Who Does Exactly What He Says He Will Do | AS BOLD AS LIONS DEVOTIONAL | May 22, 2023
Say therefore to the people of Israel, “I am the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will deliver you from slavery to them, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with great acts of judgment. I will take you to be my people, and I will be your God.” Exodus 6:6,7
The story of Moses’ call from God is a remarkable display of trust, obedience, and faith despite not seeing all the details. Certainly, God is patient with Moses. From the burning bush experience to the moment Israel crosses the Red Sea, Moses has to display a trust beyond anything he’s ever known. But God affirms and reaffirms Who He is and what He is about: He is the God of Moses’ ancestors. He is the God Who promised to give His people a land of their own. And He will deliver them out of their bondage and slavery.
The picture of Israel’s exodus is really a beautiful foreshadow of the coming of the Messiah. God had a plan in mind all the way back to the beginning; to the moment Adam and Eve first sinned. His plan was to deliver humanity as a whole out of bondage; a spiritual enslavement not unlike the physical enslavement Israel faced in Egypt. The God of the Bible is true to His word from Genesis to Revelation and every promise and everything He says He will do, He has done…or will do. We can face today with confidence when we understand the same God of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Moses is the God we serve. He will do exactly what He says and we can trust Him.
Question for today: What holds me back from fully and completely trusting God over a certain area in my life right now?
Pray: Lord I ask for confidence today to know that You stay true to Your word and I can always trust You.

Compassion Like Jesus | AS BOLD AS LIONS DEVOTIONAL | May 19, 2023
Compassion Like Jesus | AS BOLD AS LIONS DEVOTIONAL | May 19, 2023
I have compassion on the crowd because they have been with me now three days and have nothing to eat. And I am unwilling to send them away hungry, lest they faint on the way. Matthew 15:32
There are times within the Gospels that the character and nature of Christ so profoundly comes through, it’s worth stopping and considering afresh. There are a couple accounts of Jesus feeding a multitude with a few loaves and fish. In Matthew 15, Jesus’ compassion and heart for the crowd with him do not go unnoticed. Jesus knows these people have been with him for a few days. He knows they are hungry and He knows this is an unmet need He is capable of meeting. Amazingly, He asks His disciples to help meet this need (How many loaves do you have?” vs. 34). He takes the amount they bring to Him and multiplies it many times over so that the four thousand can all eat and be full.
When you read a passage like this, what strikes you about Jesus? For me, I see His care and concern for others first and foremost. At the same time, I realize my own lack in this area. If Jesus was physically with us today, I wonder how many people He would point out to us that have a genuine unmet need? A need that we, through Him, are capable of meeting? The fact is, Jesus is with us and His Spirit is showing us the needs around us if we are willing to have open eyes and ears. Just like the disciples, we bring to Him the resources we have and He multiples it, meeting the need and displaying His glory. The same compassion He has is available to us if we ask for it.
Question for today: What are the apparent unmet needs I see in the world around me?
Pray: Lord give me a heart of compassion like Yours!

Getting A Wake-Up Call | AS BOLD AS LIONS DEVOTIONAL | May 17, 2023
Getting A Wake-Up Call | AS BOLD AS LIONS DEVOTIONAL | May 17, 2023
And now, Israel, what does the LORD your God require of you, but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all His ways, to love Him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to keep the commandments and statutes of the LORD, which I am commanding you today for your good? Deuteronomy 10:12,13
On the cusp of entering the promised land, Moses warns the Israelites that they must obey the commands of the Lord in order to prosper in the new territory. It sounds simple enough, doesn’t it? Seek after the Lord, give Him your whole heart, keep His commands and you will taste His goodness in the land you are inheriting. God even sets Israel up to win. Moving further into the book of Joshua, God goes before them into every battle. As long as Israel is faithful, they have victory. But over time, their hearts grew cold and they turned to other idols rather than the Lord.
We too know it sounds simple to serve the Lord and experience His blessing. So why do we often forgo His goodness and try to chart our own path? If I examine my own life, it’s in small steps. Missing my prayer time here and there and then I’ve gone a whole week without checking in. Forgetting to read my Bible or putting it off to the end of the day (when I easily fall asleep). These small compromises add up over time and start to draw my heart away from God. Sometimes it takes a wake-up call for God to get through and show us again how much we need Him. He might be calling you today, just as He called Israel. Will you hear His voice and let your heart be drawn to Him?
Question for today: How has my prayer time/Bible study time been with the Lord lately?
Pray: God help me cut out distractions and busyness in general which keep me from meeting with You. Let my heart not be easily drawn to lesser things.

Unlocking Prison Doors | AS BOLD AS LIONS DEVOTIONAL | May 15, 2023
Unlocking Prison Doors | AS BOLD AS LIONS DEVOTIONAL | May 15, 2023
So Peter was kept in prison, but earnest prayer for him was made to God by the church. Acts 12:5
In the Book of Acts, the message of the Gospel collides with the ruling Jewish leaders of the day. Early Christians were persecuted, imprisoned and in some cases, martyred for their faith. During these days, tomorrow was not a guarantee if one professed Christ. No one knew this better than Peter who was thrown into prison by King Herod because this pleased the Jews. But in this moment, the church made “earnest prayer for him.” In the middle of the night, an angel from the Lord comes to rescue Peter and the chains fall from his hands. Peter exclaims “Now I am sure that the Lord has sent his angel and rescued me from the hand of Herod and from all that the Jewish people were expecting. (Acts 12:11)
When we pray in earnest for something, we don’t know how the Lord will respond or how long it will take. For Peter, the whole church was rallied and prayed as one body. This is a great model for us today as we believe the Lord will hear the cry of His people when we are aligned with His will. There are no jail cells too impossible for Him to reach into. No chains too big for Him to break. Our task is to pray; to intercede and stand in the gap for the person or situation laid upon our hearts. It is up to God to bring the response. But we know when we pray, He does indeed hear. He is still a God who unlocks prison doors!
Question for today: Who or what am I praying in earnest for today? How do I keep pressing on in prayer despite not getting an answer?
Pray: Lord help us to pray earnest prayers. Big prayers. Help us to pray knowing You hear us and will answer in Your way and in Your time.

So Much For Good Advice | AS BOLD AS LIONS DEVOTIONAL | May 12, 2023
So Much For Good Advice | AS BOLD AS LIONS DEVOTIONAL | May 12, 2023
His wife said to him, “Do you still retain your integrity? Curse God and die!” Job 2:9
One of the most interesting characters in the entire Bible is Job. In an instant, his whole life is stripped away. Virtually no aspect of Job’s life was spared: his family was systematically wiped out and his own physical health deteriorated with boils covering his entire body. The backstory to all of this was that Job was an upright man and the Devil believed he [Job] only trusted God because his life was good. Take away all of the blessings, Satan argued, and Job the man would reject and deny God. The bulk of the Book of Job is the ensuing conversation he has with his wife and friends in trying to figure out why such things have happened. Job knows his character is righteous, but most of the “advice” he gets is to simply admit he has some unconfessed sin, some error, and come clean before God.
From Job, we are reminded of a couple things. One, we know that bad things do indeed happen to good people. No one can claim to follow God and find a life of ease. Sin still reigns in this world and its effects still bring harm to the righteous. Second, there is a need to find good counsel when we are in the midst of a storm. In turn, we are to extend good counsel when others are suffering. Job’s friends and his wife proved of little worth when Job was most in need. We can take heed to the need to “stand in the gap” when others are facing difficulty and offer words that bring hope, not despair.
Question for today: Is there someone in my life who needs an encouraging word or a listening ear today?
Pray: Lord I know from Job’s example that rain falls on the good and the bad. Help me be a person who extends your grace today to someone in need.

Tell Yourself To Praise Again | AS BOLD AS LIONS DEVOTIONAL | May 10, 2023
Tell Yourself To Praise Again | AS BOLD AS LIONS DEVOTIONAL | May 10, 2023
Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God. Psalm 42:11
The life we have in Christ is not always what we expect it to be. We often have a certain notion of how God should move and the way He should answer the prayers we pray. We can experience disappointment, loss, and heartache and question what God is doing through it all. Sometimes we can try our best to rationalize and figure things out within our own headspace. We can rack our brains trying to find the answers when we know ultimately, God is God and what happens is somehow within His control.
In these moments, I find myself identifying with the Psalmist in Psalm 42. I know I’m saddened or confused by a certain situation…maybe it’s how my career is going, a family issue, or something else. And in that, I’m questioning why God is seemingly so far off. But if I approach things like Psalm 42:11, I find I have to literally tell myself what is true again. That my hope is in God. That I must praise Him. That sadness doesn’t reflect the truth of who He is and what He desires from me. In these moments, I find that my desires have not been about Him at all, but for the cares of this life. If I seek Him above the cares, I find the sadness and the doubt melts away and He becomes the once center again. I must tell myself to praise again. We must tell ourselves to praise again.
Question for today: How am I relying upon what I feel verses what I know today? In other words, if I know Christ is true why do I allow my feelings to say otherwise?
Pray: Lord I praise You again today, for who You are! Let the cares of this world fade away. I just want more of You.

I LOVE TO TELL THE STORY LYRICS
I hear the Savior say,
"Thy strength indeed is small,
Child of weakness, watch and pray,
Find in Me thine all in all."
Jesus paid it all,
All to Him I owe;
Sin had left a crimson stain,
He washed it white as snow.
Lord, now indeed I find
Thy pow'r and Thine alone,
Can change the leper's spots
And melt the heart of stone.
Jesus paid it all,
All to Him I owe;
Sin had left a crimson stain,
He washed it white as snow.
And when, before the throne,
I stand in Him complete,
"Jesus died my soul to save,"
My lips shall still repeat.
Jesus paid it all,
All to Him I owe;
Sin had left a crimson stain,
He washed it white as snow.

The Story Never Gets Old | AS BOLD AS LIONS DEVOTIONAL | May 8, 2023
The Story Never Gets Old | AS BOLD AS LIONS DEVOTIONAL | May 8, 2023
Therefore, do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord, nor of me his prisoner, but share in suffering for the gospel by the power of God who saved us and called us to a holy calling. 2 Timothy 1:8,9
Before we came to know Christ, there was a way of sin in which we followed. Indeed, the whole world is on this path of sin and destruction. But until any sort of revelation or awareness comes upon an individual, people as a whole persist in sin and disobedience. They simply do not know any different and do not desire anything different. But for those who hear the gospel and have their hearts stirred to its message, an awareness of self suddenly comes. Much like Adam and Eve understanding their nakedness in the garden, we see our sin and our shame for what it is. And we see Christ for Who He is, the only One who can atone for our broken state.
When we become Christ followers, there can be an initial point of zealousness and wanting to tell the world about the joy we’ve found. New Christians are often the best witnesses; full of life and hope and ready to share the truth. But at some point we can lose this sense of awe and even become ashamed to speak out so boldly. Paul warns of this in 2 Timothy 1:8. He tells Timothy not be ashamed of the gospel. This is a holy calling, one in which Christ is worthy. If we’ve lost some of that joy, we can ask the Lord to restore it and make us bold once again. The gospel never loses its power and its a story we never get tired of telling!
Question for today: How has the gospel transformed me? How can I tell my story to others today?
Pray: Let us be bold today Lord in our witness!

A Simple Faith | AS BOLD AS LIONS DEVOTIONAL | May 5, 2023
A Simple Faith | AS BOLD AS LIONS DEVOTIONAL | May 5, 2023
Truly, I say to you, unless youturn andbecome like children, youwill never enter the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 18:3
There’s a simplicity in the words of the children’s song Jesus Loves Me. Jesus loves me, this I know. For the Bible tells me so. Little ones to Him belong. They are weak, but He is strong. When I hear those words I am instantly reminded of how simple but profound this truth is. Jesus loves me, His word is clear. We can rest in Him, knowing that when we are weak He is strong (Formy power is made perfect in weakness. 2 Corinthians 12:9). We can rely on Him with faith like a child.
Why does Jesus make a point to connect one’s faith in Him to that of a childlike nature? Our level of faith needs to be fully trusting and without reservations. When we think of a child reaching up for his or her father, that child fully believes they will be held and kept from falling. There’s no thought of “What if I fall…what if daddy drops me?” It is just a simple faith. There is no doubt. When we come to our Heavenly Father we must exhibit a similar dependence. He won’t let us fall, He’ll never drop us. That is reassuring in a world where everything else fails us. He never will.
Question for today: If I could describe my own faith today, would I call it “childlike”?
Pray: Father give me a confidence in You today that allows me to sing Jesus loves me, this I know.

Who Is Worthy Enough? | AS BOLD AS LIONS DEVOTIONAL | May 3, 2023
Who Is Worthy Enough? | AS BOLD AS LIONS DEVOTIONAL | May 3, 2023
Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners. Mark 2:17
When the Pharisees saw the followers of Jesus and those He chose to hang out with, they were very disappointed. There were expectations of what the Messiah would be and how he would act. Jesus pushed the boundaries time and time again when He chose to pick disciples who didn’t seem worthy enough. And He hung around people who were obviously sinners. The Pharisees, being legalistic to a fault, questioned why Jesus would allow Himself to be seen with such bad influences. After all, didn’t He understand His associations didn’t line up with how the Messiah should conduct himself?
We too can allow ourselves to question who is worthy enough of Jesus’ touch. The Pharisees didn’t like this idea of the Messiah because it didn’t fit neatly inside the box they had built. Jesus pushed their boundaries enough to make them upset over what ministry should look like. We can do the same when we question whether or not God can reach someone. In the end, we know it is up to us to scatter the seed of His word. Some ground will be willing to receive it and bear fruit. Other ground will not. But it didn’t stop Jesus from telling everyone the Good News; whether rich or poor, high social status or low, man or woman, or any color or race. In the end, none of us are worthy enough for Him. But He adopts us into His family and gives us a new heart. From there, He asks us to “Go and make disciples of ALL nations.”
Question for today: If I’m honest today, who have I deemed less than worthy of receiving Christ? How can I pray for that person today?
Pray: Lord I pray that you would soften my heart to the lost (especially this particular person). I ask that my heart would be transformed in the process.

Sitting Out The War | AS BOLD AS LIONS DEVOTIONAL | May 1, 2023
Sitting Out The War | AS BOLD AS LIONS DEVOTIONAL | May 1, 2023
In the spring of the year, the time when kings go out to battle, David sent Joab, and his servants with him, and all Israel. And they ravaged the Ammonites and besieged Rabbah. But David remained at Jerusalem. 2 Samuel 11:1
When we think of David’s sin with Bathsheba and the fallout thereafter, there is a point at which David could have prevented the whole thing. Certainly the very act itself could have been avoided by David not allowing lust to consume his heart. But 2 Samuel 11:1 is a clear indicator of the point he missed entirely: he should have been at war with his men rather than sitting at home in his palace. The verse is clear that David sent others to go into battle. Whatever the army would face, it would not require his direct leadership (or so he thought). He rested up, stayed home, and sent the rest of Israel. But if he had it all to do over again, he probably would’ve chosen differently.
There are times in our Christian walk when the temptation to “phone it in” and go easy are strong. After all, life in Christ is not always a walk in the park. But just like David avoided the war to his own detriment, avoiding battles can set us up for future pain whatever temporary benefit or pleasure we seek. There was a clear decision on David’s behalf to not go, to not fight. It then put him in a position in which temptation was strong and he fell victim to the enemy’s schemes. The lesson for us? We cannot choose to sit out the war no matter how convenient. We must suit up day after day and rely upon the Lord to give us strength and the ability to stand.
Question for today: Is there any aspect of my life in which I am avoiding a battle today?
Pray: Lord I ask that You would help me face battles head on, with Your power enabling me to stand. Help me not take short-cuts.

Following God’s Battle Plan | AS BOLD AS LIONS DEVOTIONAL | April 28, 2023
Following God’s Battle Plan | AS BOLD AS LIONS DEVOTIONAL | April 28, 2023
Watch on YouTube: https://youtu.be/nx_b9-J8_Iw
And the LORD said to Gideon, “With the 300 men who lapped I will save you and give the Midianites into your hand, and let all the others go every man to his home.” Judges 7:7
Judges chapters 6-8 are a case study in following a battle plan that doesn’t make a whole lot of sense; at least from man’s perspective. Gideon is chosen by God to lead Israel into battle against their enemy, the Midianites. When called, Gideon is actually hiding in a winepress threshing grain. Still God calls him a “mighty man of valor” (Judges 6:12). As God prepares Gideon for battle, he cuts his army numbers down…way down. From a size of 32,000 Gideon somehow ends up with 300. From there, the battle itself depended upon two unlikely weapons: trumpets and jars with torches. Yet in all of this, Midian is routed. Surprised by an attack at night, Israel ambushes the camp. When the trumpets are blown, the enemy turns upon itself in utter confusion.
Sometimes when God calls us to do something, the plans don’t make any sense. Financially the numbers don’t work out. Physically the toll seems too hard. Mentally and emotionally, we just don’t have the stamina to put forth the effort. But these are all reasons to quit based upon our abilities. God wasn’t looking for Gideon’s ability, only his availability. It was obvious God had another plan as He slimmed the army down to 300. It was obvious God would bring victory in such a way that only He could get the credit. If there’s a plan that seems too big today, good. It’s God’s way of letting you know the battle is His. You just need to obey and be ready for the call.
Question for today: What is impossible with God? In light of that, how do I approach the mountains in front of me?
Pray: God You are still the God who brought Gideon the victory with just 300 men. Help me trust You for victories today and stop relying upon my own strength.

Overcomers In Christ | AS BOLD AS LIONS DEVOTIONAL | April 26, 2023
Overcomers In Christ | AS BOLD AS LIONS DEVOTIONAL | April 26, 2023
Then I hearda loud voice in heaven, saying, “Now thesalvation, and the power, and thekingdom of our God and the authority of His Christ have come, for theaccuser of our brothersand sistershas been thrown down, the one who accuses them before our God day and night. And theyovercame him because ofthe blood of the Lamb and because ofthe word of their testimony, and theydid not love their lifeeven when faced with death.Revelation 12:10,11
The enemy of our souls knows that his time to accuse and persecute the brethren (believers) is short (Revelation 12:12). However, we often miss this when we are in the thick of things. Evil seems to abound. From the areas of politics to entertainment to business and beyond, Satan is at work. His tentacles reach far and wide. And his goal is to silence Christians because of the truth they possess. He uses methods to intimidate and threaten in order to quiet our voices.
However, with the Holy Spirit living and active, Satan’s agenda cannot be rammed through. A posture we must take each day and an attitude of heart and mind we must put on is: we are overcomers in Christ. This passage in Revelation reminds us of this truth. As we go from day-to-day battle-weary and tired, we must remember our fight is not in vain. Through Christ we are literally pushing back the darkness and one day, darkness will be forever defeated. Satan will be thrown down and conquered — praise God. As we go through uncertain days, we must remember who we are and Whose we are: we are overcomers in Christ!
Question for today: Where have I seen the enemy first-hand attacking me or those closest to me? How do I claim the blood of Jesus over those situation?
Pray: Jesus, thank You that because You overcame, I can overcome. Help that be my identity as the enemy comes against me.

I LOVE TO TELL THE STORY LYRICS
I love to tell the story of unseen things above,
Of Jesus and His glory, of Jesus and His love;
I love to tell the story, because I know ’tis true,
It satisfies my longings as nothing else can do.
I love to tell the story,
’Twill be my theme in glory,
To tell the old, old story
Of Jesus and His love.
I love to tell the story, for those who know it best
Seem hungering and thirsting to hear it like the rest;
And when in scenes of glory I sing the new, new song,
’Twill be the old, old story that I have loved so long.
I love to tell the story,
’Twill be my theme in glory,
To tell the old, old story
Of Jesus and His love.
I love to tell the story,
’Twill be my theme in glory,
To tell the old, old story
Of Jesus and His love.
