Two Paths, Two Different Ends | AS BOLD AS LIONS DEVOTIONAL | January 11, 2023
Two Paths, Two Different Ends | AS BOLD AS LIONS DEVOTIONAL | January 11, 2023
Blessed is the man whowalks not inthe counsel of the wicked, nor stands inthe way of sinners, norsits inthe seat ofscoffers; but hisdelight is in the law of theLord, and on Hislaw he meditates day and night. Psalm 1:1,2
Psalm 1 is a short discourse (6 verses) on the two roads we can take through life: a path of righteousness or a path of wickedness. For the righteous man there is happiness; a feeling of being “right with God.” He is a man who takes delight in God’s Word and bears fruit. He is prosperous. God watches over him. The wicked man on the other hand, is the exact opposite. His way does not lead to life. His path ultimately comes to ruin and destruction. At the end of all things, he will not survive the Lord’s judgment.
Sometimes these black and white descriptions from Scripture make our world uncomfortable, because it’s a world that wants to live in shades of gray. But when we come to Christ, we acknowledge that we do not know the right way; the way that is best. We surrender to a plan that is better than ours and lay down our wants, desires, and even our standards of right/wrong in exchange for the standard and the way. The path laid out before us is clear. It just depends upon which road we ultimately choose to take. Each day we can either submit and follow Christ or go our own way. The path in Him may not always be easy, but the rewards are out of this world.
Question for today: How have I experienced both paths in my life and come to know that it is much better pursuing Christ than trying to do life without Him?
Pray: God I thank You for a way that is clear to finding life and fulfillment. It is through Your Son, Jesus Christ.

Be Ready For Anything | AS BOLD AS LIONS DEVOTIONAL | January 9, 2023
Be Ready For Anything | AS BOLD AS LIONS DEVOTIONAL | January 9, 2023
Then Paul answered, “What are you doing, weeping and breaking my heart? For I am ready not only to be imprisoned but even to die in Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.” And since he would not be persuaded, we ceased and said, “Let the will of the Lord be done.” Acts 21:13-14
As we read Acts 21, we see Paul preparing to go to Jerusalem. He didn’t know exactly what awaited him there but he felt the Spirit’s leading and could not ignore it. Many of his friends and fellow believers urged him not to go. One prophesied that he would be bound and handed over to Gentiles when he got there. Would this lead to imprisonment? Death? No one knew but Paul did not allow the fear of the unknown to hold him back. He went anyway and proclaimed Christ in Jerusalem; even to those who would reject his message.
We don’t always know why we are called to go and do something. But when the Spirit starts working on our hearts, there really is no avoiding it. Jonah was a resister but we all know what happened to him. He was still used by the Lord. We do better to just follow God’s will and trust Him. We know He knows all the details. We don’t have to. Like Paul, we can boldly go and do the will of the Lord. Be ready for anything. God will supply all you need.
Question for today: What does boldness in Christ look like for me today?
Pray: Lord help me move beyond my lack of faith or unbelief when it comes to stepping out. I know You go before me. You prepare the way.

Let God Write Your Resume | AS BOLD AS LIONS DEVOTIONAL | January 6, 2023
Let God Write Your Resume | AS BOLD AS LIONS DEVOTIONAL | January 6, 2023
Your servant has struck down both lions and bears, and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be like one of them, for he has defied the armies of the living God. 1 Samuel 17:36
In the story of David vs. Goliath, there’s a moment at which David must convince King Saul to let him go and fight the giant. David has grown offended by the taunts and jeers of the Philistine Goliath towards the “armies of the living God.” He asks what will be done for the man who is willing to fight and kill him. Word gets back to Saul and although David is willing to fight, the king has his doubts. David is just a youth. What experience does he have? But in his response, David goes through his lists of accomplishments on the field — lions and bears have fallen by his hand. Goliath would be no different.
When we allow God to bring us through smaller, more minor battles, we find that we are prepared for the bigger things to come. We must trust that in this process, He is “building and writing our resume.” God knew that one day, Goliath would confront Israel. He knew David would be the man to take him down. All the years fighting bears and lions were preparation years for David to get ready. David may not have even known why those smaller battles occurred but once Goliath appeared, he knew how to fight and win. May we let God write our resumes as well so that when we face Goliaths, we take the same posture, saying “The battle is theLord's, and he will give you [Goliath] into our hand.” 1 Samuel 17:47
Question for today: Am I able to see God writing the resume of my life, knowing smaller battles and hidden years are preparing me for the journey ahead? Can I trust Him in the smaller things as well as the larger ones to come?
Pray: Lord just as You were preparing David in his youth, You prepare us. Our spiritual growth in You means that we can face and conquer giants because You give us the ability to do it.

How’s Your Foundation? | AS BOLD AS LIONS DEVOTIONAL | January 4, 2023
How’s Your Foundation? | AS BOLD AS LIONS DEVOTIONAL | January 4, 2023
Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and puts them into practiceis like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. Matthew 7:24,25
Jesus often spoke in parables, using real-world examples in life to display timeless truths. The wise and foolish builders in Matthew 7 are examples of a physical device being applied to something spiritual. A house needs a strong foundation in order to keep standing; especially during times of storm and wind. A foolish builder put his house on a foundation of sand; something not able to withstand the long haul. A wise builder put his house on a foundation of rock; something that held up even when the elements beat against it.
In projecting ourselves into a new year, can we see that this very simple aspect of “foundation” is a necessary consideration? What is it that our lives are founded upon? What do we come back to when life gets hard? If it isn’t Jesus, it won’t sustain us and it will crumble. No one wishes for hardship or difficulty. But we have no guarantees in this life. What is guaranteed is that the Lord will be with us and will never leave us nor forsake us. He is the foundation worth having. All wise builders choose solid rock over sinking sand!
Question for today: A new year is a good time to examine priorities. Is my life grounded upon the word of God?
Pray: Lord examine my foundation and remove any part that is not of You. I want my life to be build on the rock.

A New Year, So What? | AS BOLD AS LIONS DEVOTIONAL | January 2, 2023
A New Year, So What? | AS BOLD AS LIONS DEVOTIONAL | January 2, 2023
For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:10
As a new calendar begins, there can be a lot of pressure to do something different with our lives. Make resolutions. Make improvements. Lose weight. Cut out bad habits. Replace negative or harmful routines with good ones. Do, do, do. Sometimes all of this pressure feels emotionally driven and out of a place of being self-focused, rather than God-focused. The culture can push a “be the best version of you” mantra which may sound good in theory. But what’s the definition of good, especially when it is apart from Christ?
I’m not against resolutions and trying to better ourselves. And a new year is a perfect time to take an inventory and evaluate our lives. But one thing we must always come back to is this: what am I put on this Earth to do? What is it that Christ has for me? Paul makes it clear in Ephesians: we are created in Christ for good works; we are to walk in them. Those good works are exemplified and displayed through the person of Jesus Christ. Jesus on display in the Gospels is the life we are to emulate. So what if it’s a new year? Well, it’s only important if we are making Christ the focus of these next 12 months.
Question for today: What are the things I tend to focus on around the new year that pale in comparison to what Christ is asking of me?
Pray: Lord we put a lot of emphasis on making ourselves better just because the culture says we should. But our standard is You Jesus and we ask that you would help us reflect You more each day.

He Goes Before You, Into The Unknown | AS BOLD AS LIONS DEVOTIONAL | December 30, 2022
Today’s Devotional - Friday December 30th
“He Goes Before You, Into The Unknown”
And the Lord said to Paul one night in a vision, “Do not be afraid, but go on speaking and do not be silent, for I am with you, and no one will attack you to harm you, for I have many in this city who are My people.” Acts 18:9,10
Question for today: What am I either excited or nervous (or both) about in 2023? How can I trust God goes before me and is preparing the way?
Pray: Thank You for the reassurance You gave Paul and that You extend to us as well. We know our mission in the Gospel is to speak out and speak boldly. Help us know You are with us.

“Would We Go Back To Egypt?”
They said to Moses, “…What have you done to us in bringing us out of Egypt? Is not this what we said to you in Egypt: ‘Leave us alone that we may serve the Egyptians?’ For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the wilderness.” Exodus 14:11,12
Question for today: What promises and deliverances do I need to recall to know God is with me and goes before me today?
Pray: God I thank You for Red Sea moments in my life. But just like Israel, I have times when I want go back to Egypt. I want to trust where You are leading even when the journey is hard.

Why Is It So Hard? | AS BOLD AS LIONS DEVOTIONAL | November 18, 2022
Today’s Devotional - Friday November 18th
“Why Is It So Hard?”
Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. Matthew 28:19,20
Question for today: Does the Great Commission seem hard as I apply it to my life? If so, why does it feel that way?

What Truly Matters | AS BOLD AS LIONS DEVOTIONAL | November 14, 2022

“What Truly Matters”
Then I considered all that my hands had done and the toil I had expended in doing it, and behold, all wasvanity and a striving after wind, and there was nothingto be gained under the sun. Ecclesiastes 2:11

Compassion vs. Logistics | AS BOLD AS LIONS DEVOTIONAL | October 28, 2022
Today’s Devotional - Friday October 28th
“Compassion vs. Logistics”
I have compassion on the crowd, because they have been with Me now three days and have nothing to eat. Mark 8:2
Question for today: Can I see an unmet need before me that I’ve been avoiding because it looks too big?
Pray: God let me sense Your heart before I think of all the reasons why something is impossible. With You, all things are possible!

Let Blind Eyes See | AS BOLD AS LIONS DEVOTIONAL | October 24, 2022
Today’s Devotional - Monday October 24th
“Let Blind Eyes See”
The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned. 1 Corinthians 2:14
Question for today: How have I wrestled with this idea of people not being able to see Christ and how has it affected my outlook on the world? How do I gain insight as I consider 1 Corinthians 2:14?
Pray: Very simply Lord, we ask for blind eyes to see! Use us to point someone to Your truth today.
