Cassy Crago didn’t grow up with firearms as a normal part of her life. Even a home invasion, stalking and physical assault did not trigger a desire or need to protect herself but after her divorce she was asked “Who would suffer the most if you didn’t make it home at night?” and that was the question, she says, changed her life. She realized her children would suffer greatly if she did not make it home at the end of the night. So she searched for a women’s shooting group and found A Girl and A Gun Women’s Shooting League. Through her training with a wide array of instructors, Cassy now has over 450 hours of professional instruction and 6 levels of instructor certification including, NRA, Rangemaster, Active Self Protection Instructor Certification Cohort 7, Michigan Coalition for Responsible Gun Owners, Image Based Decision Drills, Stop the Bleed, AGAG and 2 RSO certifications) She’s now headed to Apache Solutions to their Instructor Enrichment Program. Austin Knudsen was sworn in as Montana’s 25th Attorney General in January 2021. He is a 5th generation Montanan who grew up a farm and ranch kid in Northeast Montana. Living in upstate New York, Trish found a desperate need for education in firearms training after working as a pistol licensing clerk in her hometown. She got involved locally and eventually created the first ever Women’s Concealed Carry Holster Fashion Show held in 2012 and 2014. In its second year, it drew media attention and over 400 spectators. She felt like “that girl” early in her training in New York and went on a mission to make sure no one gets left behind on her watch. During that time is when Lora and Trish paths crossed. The story unfolds in the interview and a great friendship blossomed and grew over the years. Jonathan Heslep grew up in the mountains of southwest Montana. He has worked in Emergency Services since he was 18 years old, volunteering at three different local departments since 2008. He is currently a Captain/EMT with the Montana City Volunteer Fire Department. He began his professional career with the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation as a wildland firefighter in 2011, where he still works as the Fire Operations Specialist, overseeing the Helena Unit engine crews. Jonathan also serves on the Emmanuel Church Security Team and has provided medical classes to several churches in the Helena area. When not busy with his various jobs, he and his young family like to spend their time in the mountains hiking, camping, backpacking, skiing, canoeing, and eating fajitas around a campfire. Gary Marbut has been working over the last 30 years, actively working through the non-profit, Montana Shooting Sports Association to get over 70 pro-gun and pro-hunting bills enacted into law in the state of Montana. A former Army veteran and Montana rancher, Marbut has devoted his life to preserving what he describes as our cornerstone of liberty, our right to keep and bear arms. He has also served as a firefighter and Advanced Life Support Paramedic in Alaska and has seen first hand the trauma caused by improper use of firearms. Gary is a former firearms instructor in both pistol and rifle, graduating over 6000 students qualifying them for a Montana Concealed Carry Permit. He was also the Director and is the current Secretary of the 4000 member Western Montana Fish and Game Association and was appointed by two Montana governors to the Governor's Concealed Weapon Permit Advisory Council. In 2009 he was awarded the National Grassroots Activist of the Year by the Second Amendment Foundation. He was a also the recipient of the Saint Gabriel Possenti Medal for “Defenders of the Faith”, awarded to one to three persons each year for exceptional contributions to U.S. gun owners - selected and awarded by the Second Amendment Foundation at the national Gun Rights Policy Conference. He is the author of Gun Laws in Montana, now in it’s 5th edition as well as an e-book called Stories Worth Telling which has a 5 star review on Amazon. (So his stories must be worth telling.) And he is the developer of the Be Safe gun safety program for 1st through 5th grade children, distributed to every elementary school in Montana. Christian Griffith is an extreme athlete with extreme grit. As a survivor of child sexual abuse, he has made it his mission to be an advocate for children. In 2018, he ran 3,142 miles across the United States from NY to CA (30 miles a day for 5 months straight) to inspire those who have been abused to break their silence and to raise $1 million to prevent and treat child abuse. Christian has completed over 100 races of marathon distance or farther, racing over volcanoes, across deserts and through infested swamps all over the world. He’s earned his 50-mile bib at World's Toughest Mudder on CBS, took a beating on American Ninja Warrior on NBC, and survived Hell as a finisher on THE SELECTION: Special Operations Experiment, on History Channel. He has also successfully completed the Fuego Y Agua 100K Trail Ultramarathon in Nicaragua more times (3) than anyone else in the history of the race. Christian is spreading the message of treatment for those who have been abused and says it’s the only way out. “Because nobody talks about it, I packaged up my own personal experiences of abuse, airtight and put them on a shelf high up and deep in my brains for over 30 years, just hoping ‘out of sight, out of mind.’” Treatment is the only way out. Christian says that he wants to prove that your past does not have to be your future. “I’m not proud of who I have been in the past, but through my current relationships, EMDR therapy and a solid dedication to change, I have tuned things around. Am I perfect? Nope. But I will never stop trying.” He says his experiences have taught him that you can always do more than you think you can and encourages other to never, ever quit. Not even when someone tell you that you are too old, too slow, not strong enough and not keeping up. He says “Go until the wheels fall off..and then you ride the axles. Never quit. Wayne Black is an author, public speaker, former law enforcement officer and internationally recognized security expert with more than forty-five years of professional experience in both the public and private sectors. He is the founder of Wayne Black & Associates, Inc. For more than a decade, Mr. Black was the Security Advisor/Protection Detail Lead traveling internationally with former Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld and the Rumsfeld Foundation. Mr. Black routinely provides detailed threat assessments for schools, churches, synagogues, hospitals, and other facilities. He has personally supervised protection details and special threat assignments in the United States, Central Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe, and South America. As a contractor for the Department of Homeland Security after the events of 9/11, Mr. Black was selected to work on a classified “Red Team” conducting threat assessments at designated national security locations and events. During the first Gulf War, he designed and managed an accelerated security clearance program for the US Department of Energy. He also trained DOE officials in security operations and personal protection. Mr. Black has been qualified to testify as an expert witness regarding security in Federal and State courts. He is a nationally certified firearms instructor in pistol, rifle, shotgun, and range safety officer’s training. Mr. Black served as a Law Enforcement Group Supervisor at the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Public Corruption/Organized Crime Unit. Prior, he was assigned to the United States Justice Department’s Inter-Agency Task Force at the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) where he received numerous awards and commendations from the Department of Justice and the United States Attorney.
