After Novitiate and First Studies, Jesuits in training move on to the third stage of formation: "Regency."

After 3 years of Regency, working full-time in ministry, Jesuits head back to school to begin "Theology Studies," which is the 4th stage of Jesuit formation.

The final stage of Jesuit formation is called "Tertianship." After a man has completed all of his studies, then spent a few years working as a priest or brother, he's ready to begin this final stage of his formation.

How long does it take to become a Jesuit priest or brother? Fr. Chris Calderón, SJ helps demystify the whole the process (known as formation) of a man becoming a Jesuit priest or brother.

After 2 years of Novitiate, Jesuits profess perpetual vows of poverty, chastity and obedience, and then move onto the second phase of Jesuit formation: "First Studies."

The first stage of Jesuit formation is called "Novitiate." Before entering the Society of Jesus, candidates go through a lengthy application process. If the man is accepted to the Order, he heads to the Novitiate for entrance day.

Not all virgins are chaste, and not all chaste people are virgins.

Far too many Catholics are falling back on short, Post- Vatican II, dumbed-down Acts of Contrition, the one that they learnt in their First Holy Communion Class, taught by a catechist whose children had probably all lapsed years ago. We need to re-claim the use of proper, complete Acts of Contrition used by generations of Catholics prior to this present one. This video offers an example, but there are others out there which are also very good. Memorise a proper Act of Contrition!
