Prove My Hypotheses by Death Cab for Cutie
I play my guitar along to a live recording of Prove My Hypothesis by Death Cab for Cutie
At the beginning of the song, they announce that this will be the last song of their tour, and then the tour will be declared over.
Lyrics:
Just admit that you're wrong
And I'll give back what I borrowed or stole
From the parent's house
From the studio, it's the principle
You said, "Wait here, prove all my hypothesis"
Catching up with the band
Their drummer had left to pursue his career
I rode in their van, they stated
"The parting was ugly, it brought him to tears"
You said, "Wait here, prove all my hypothesis"
You said, "Wait here, prove all my hypothesis"

A Song About The Day My Great Great Grandpa Died
Neighbor kid lives in the house across the street, with his great great grandparents.
Apparently at some point some “shooters” came in the house, and thats the day his great great grandpa died.
Apparently he still lived there with his great great grandmother,
Until she passed away.
Last we heard he was moved to Arizona and living with his grandparents ?
Supposedly there is some truth to this story, although details are hard to come by.
Seems to me this kid wanted to talk about what happened.

Making a custom guitar pick (3 of 3)
In the first video, we roughed in the custom pick pattern with scissors,
In the second video, we use files to shape the contact surfaces so they have the perfect contour.
In the third video, we use sanding blocks to put a final finish on the custom guitar pick.
This custom guitar pick can still be used like any ordinary guitar pick,
However if you rotate the pick in your hand, you will discover two new ways to hold the pick.
The first way is to hold the pick so that the smaller two tips are hitting the strings.
While holding the pick in this position, you will notice that your thumb and finger find the other notch useful as a tiny handle, to more precisely control the guitar pick, for extra articulation.
For example, the two tips are spaced the same as the guitar strings, so if you held the pick at 90 degrees to the strings, you could pluck two strings at the exact same time.
Of course, you will probably feel more confortable with your pick at a 45 degree angle, so when you pitch your wrist and/or or thumb, this angle will change, making you hit the strings either closer together in time, or farther apart.
Also, with two tips it makes it possible to hit the same string twice with just one movement,
And depending on how you tilt your wrist, will change how much time is in between the plucks.
Also, the little valley in between the two tips is very useful for controlling a string, like you can catch and trap a string in that valley between the tips.
Alternatively, you can flip the pick over, so that the two tips are facing up, and the bigger notch is interfacting with the strings.

Making a custom guitar pick (2 of 3)
In the previous video, we started with an ordinary guitar pick, and put tape on it so that we could draw a pattern, and then used scissors to do a rough cut of the pattern.
In this video, we use small hand files to clean up the scissors burrs, and also to shape the surface more precisely and closer to the finished product.
In the next video, we use sanding blocks to give the custom guitar pick its final finish.

Making a custom guitar pick (1 of 3 )
In this video, we begin with an ordinary guitar pick, and put masking tape on it, so that we can use a pencil to draw the pattern onto the pick with a pencil.
Then we use scissors to cut out the pattern of the new pick shape design.
The scissors leave a rough edge, so in later videos we use small files and sanding blocks to give the custom pick a fine finish

Genuine Relic - The Story Of The Guitar
https://rumble.com/v28e54q-genuine-relic-the-story-of-the-guitar.html
The guitar is a Fender Squire Bullet
Made in Indonesia
Neck stamp says IC OCT 03
ive spent some time cleaning up this guitar, and making adjustments.
The bridge plate seemed to have been mounted 1/4” too close/short,
and so the Lowest E string etc could not be intonated within the mechanical limits of adjustment.
Eventually, i decided to grind off the back side of the bridge saddles, so that they could be adjusted further back, making the string longer, and long enough to intonate properly.
I may still have to do a little more grinding on the saddles, because it seems like some notes are still hard to NOT play slightly sharp.
Also, in this video im testing out my video equipment, my tripod, my remote-control dongle,
Trying to figure out the best camera angle,
the best distance between me and the camera,
And between me and the background curtains,
And the best spot to stand so that there is good enough lighting to clearly see fine details such as facial expressions and finger movements,
But also enough shadowing so that theres a contrast, which makes the movements seem to POP out at the viewer.
And also the best place to stand, so that i can properly hear myself within the mix of sounds,
After reviewing this video, the backing track seems to have overpowered my guitar sounds, and sometimes the guitar seems to fade into the background mix
I can simply adjust the mix, to put my guitar sounds more front-and-center,
and/or add a small guitar amp up closer to the video camera, as a sound monitor/amplifier.
And also trying to get the lighting right, which is not easy and takes a lot of experimentation.
as you can see, theres a spot light behind the camera, and so theres a shadow of the camera on me, and its visually distracting.
Also, i am using a white guitar strap which im not sure if i like or not, but its the only strap i had at the moment.
I like the idea of a white strap, like a white belt in martial arts.
Start at the bottom, with a white belt, and work your way thru the colors until you have a black belt.
So the white belt is a symbol of humility here.
Im still just a beginner, so please be gentle.
The guy who sold me this guitar mentioned that it had the purest sounding sine wave output of any guitar he had ever heard…
and i thought that was an interesting observation on his part, and i wondered why that might be true.
Perhps its because this guitar has the most basic electronic curcuit i have seen on any guitar.
1 hum-bucker pick-up (pup)
1 volume knob
1 output jack
After playing it for a while, i can say that it does play nice for me, but i have big hands and fat fingers so maybe this guitar wouldn’t play as well for you.
Im wearing white socks, which makes it easier to see my feet move.
Hat tip to Michael Jackson for that idea!
I may try to go barefoot in other videos.
you should play music in bare feet, for the same reason you play music with bare hands.
If you are playing music correctly, you are using your hands and feet equally.
Im using a bright yellow guitar cord, which is visually distracting on the floor. A black cord would blend into the background better.
But a black cord is also more likely to get stepped on and broken because you don’t see it…
My stage curtains weren’t adjusted correctly, and you can see gaps in the curtains.
This video was taken in a basement studio, and the floor is slightly sloped toward the floor drain.
Therefore, if you stand and play guitar very long, your hips and lower back will become tilted and jacked up.
So you gotta stand with your feet facing the floor drain, so your hips and back, etc don’t get all jacked up.
Im basically just going thru the motions of making videos, and trying to improve my art and music.
This video represents is a big mind-set change for me, because before i would be like,
“im going to practice guitar”
And now im like,
“Im going to practice making videos”
Wish me luck!
Thanks for watching!

Inspecting Guitar Bridge / Saddle / Action Height Adjustment Screws
In this video, we inspect the bridge saddle adjustment screws, and find that they are sticking up way too far, and therefore the screws become a rough, jagged point that your hand rubs up against a million times over the years…
By grinding these screws shorter, we can get the screw head to be slightly recessed into the saddle, leaving a nice smooth finish.
Its little details like these, that a player subconsciously notices when they pick up a guitar and just fall in love with the way it feels in their hands.

In this video, we inspect the guitar bridge saddle intonation adjustment screws, and see that the screws are too long to make the intonation adjustment without the screw touching the guitar string.
If the screw touches the string, theres a good chance the string will break there.
Theres no way this guitar was ever set up properly, because theres no way those saddles would ever adjust far enough back to get the adjustment right.
Consequently, this guitar would never be able to play all of the notes on the fingerboard “in tune”, and most of the notes would be very sharp because each strings’ scale length was too short.
When im done grinding down the intonation adjustment screws, and cutting the saddle springs shorter, this guitar (and guitar player) will be able to hit perfect pitch on every string, every fret.
This adjustment is very critical to the playability of the guitar!
If the intonation adjustment is not done correctly, then every note (on this particular guitar) will be sharp, and the guitar student will be practicing making sharp notes instead of in-tune notes.
If this adjustment isn’t done, you are setting up the guitar student to fail.
The student must practice hitting the perfect sounding note! The student can’t practice making sharp notes, and expect that to magically translate/transpose to perfect pitch!
When this adjustment is done correctly, the guitar student will have to bend the strings “slightly” up-to-pitch when they fret a note. By having to bend the notes up to pitch, the student develops the muscle memory, and hand-ear coordination required for perfect pitch.
This adjustment is so fundamental, yet it seems that most guitar players don’t give it the attention it deserves.
I would say that on every guitar ive ever worked on, this adjustment was never done correctly.
I have had online conversations with other guitar players, who poo-poo the idea of getting this done right, and just write it off as one of the features of a guitar.
Ive been told that no guitar is capable of having all of its notes in tune, so the best you can do is adjust your intonation for the hand positions you use most.
Guitar players are notoriously bull-headed, arrogant, and ignorant… which probably explains why they are oddly resisting the reasonable and attainable idea of getting their guitar into perfect pitch.
If there was only one thing i could show a guitar student, this would be it.
This adjustment brings together the skill of the guitar tech who did the set-up, and the skill of the guitar player to bend the note up to perfect pitch.
These 2 skill sets must come together perfectly at the same time and place. If either skill is lacking, the guitar/player will never be able to consistently make perfect notes.

How To Fix Guitar Pick Guard Rattle
In this video, I use a small hand-held diamond tipped tool to clean up the screw holes for the pickguard, the output jack, and the bridge.
When these guitars are built, they just lay a pick-guard on the guitar, and run screws thew pickguard holes, and whatever happens underneath the pickguard, stays underneath the pickguard…
That means theres a lot of wood shavings, and chips of finish, that remain trapped underneath your pickguard, and this allows your pick-guard to rattle.
Also, when the screws go into the wood, they leave the surface of the wood with a pimple, that wont allow the pick-guard to lay flat on the guitar.
So i gently grind away the screw hole pimples, by hand, using a very small abrasive tool, so as to minimize the chance of damaging larger surface area of finish,
for example sanding block would be obvious choice on unfinished raw guitar wood, but on finished, it would not work.

Guitar Lesson - 2 Finger Pull-Off - 1 Half Step
In this exercise, we use the middle and pointer finger to do a 2 finger pull-off, across 1 half-step.
To do this exercise, start with both fingers fretting one string, on two adjacent frets.
Pluck the string to sound the note made by your middle finger, wait a moment, and then pull-off, or quickly lift, your middle finger, and let the pointer finger note sound.
Don’t rush the exercise. Let the first note sound for a moment, before pulling-off to sound the next note. Practice until both notes sound equally good, and sound for an equal length of time.
