A Little Bitter Makes Your Whole Life Sweeter
Proverbs 27:7 says "One who is full loathes honey, but to one who is hungry everything bitter is sweet." A counterintuitive truth is that a life with too much sweet becomes bitter, but a life with a little bitter becomes sweeter.
People are resilient. They tend to adapt and become accustomed to whatever circumstances life puts them in. Because of this, a life of too much ease creates weak men. If you want to be happy, strong, and able to withstand whatever curve balls come your way, you're better off seeking out challenges and hardships in measured, controlled doses before truly hard times come and knock you on your backside.

Don't go back to Egypt!
Joshua and Moses both told the Hebrews not to go back to their old idolatrous ways nor to learn new ones from the Canaanites.
But what does this mean for us today?

Manasseh's Wealth in Joshua 22
In Joshua 22:7-9, Joshua sends the half-tribe of Manasseh back to their land on the east side of the Jordan with a blessing and much material wealth. Does the Bible teach that wealth is a curse or a blessing?
Maybe a little of both.

No New Covenant Annuls an Older Covenant
God made covenants with Eve, Noah, Abraham, Israel, Aaron, the Levites, David, and many others. The Bible is the story of covenants made and fulfilled; that is its central theme. Yet not one new covenant ever annulled an older one. That's just not how covenants work.
From Joshua 22:1-6.

Justice Is Your Responsibility
In Joshua 20:1-6 and Deuteronomy 16:18-20, God tells the people of Israel that they, not the government, are ultimately responsible for ensuring that justice is carried out in their cities, whether in prosecuting the guilty or protecting the innocent.

Zelophehad's Daughters in Joshua 17

A Metaphor of the Divine Plan in Joshua 15
Prophecy doesn't always take the form of ecstatic utterances and poetry. Sometimes life is prophecy, especially if you're a Biblical patriarch.

Inheritance on the East Side of the Jordan
Joshua chapter 13 describes the inheritance of Gad, Reuben, and the half tribe of Manasseh east of the Jordan. God's original plan appeared to have been that all twelve tribes would inherit land on the west side of the Jordan. Was this really okay that they took land on the east side?
