This Saturday night (9-11 P.M. Eastern) we welcome Nick Brana to Strange Bedfellows. Nick Brana is an organizer of the Rage Against The War Machine coalition and National Director with theMovement for a People's Party, the national nonprofit at the helm of the rapidly growing movement for a new progressive political party in America. The Movement for a #PeoplesParty is building a coalition of labor and progressive organizations for a nationally-viable party for working people. Formerly Draft #Bernie, MPP was founded in 2017 by Bernie 2016 staff, delegates and supervolunteers. Nick was the National Political Outreach Coordinator with Bernie Sanders presidential campaign, where he lobbied the superdelegates and elected officials for Bernie, organized his political meetings, and planned convention activities. He went on to become a founding member of Our Revolution and its first Electoral Manager, where he created an endorsement plan and assembled the candidates. Before that he was the Deputy Director of Voter Protection on Terry McAuliffe’s gubernatorial campaign and worked on then-Sen. John Kerry’s PAC. He earned his BA in sociology and environmental policy at William & Mary and lives in Virginia, outside of Washington D.C. On tonight's show we will also introduce Nick to my co-host Rick Walker, a longtime active organizer with the People's Party of #Canada (#PPC). Now Simulcasting on https://www.YouTube.com/@InfoWarsPress Former president Donald #Trump said that he could “guarantee” he would end the war in #Ukraine “immediately.” The #Republican 2024 presidential candidate added that he wouldn’t “reveal now” exactly how he intends to accomplish that. Trump said: “The saddest part about the war is that this is a war that should have never happened. So now it happened. Now you have to get people in a room, you have to knock heads, and get it done. That would mean saying things to #Putin and saying things to #Zelenskyy that they’re not going to want to hear, and getting them into a room, and getting it done.” Trump’s campaign pledge may well be sincere, but we wonder: if #peace between #Russia and #Ukraine is urgent (and we think it is), why wait until after the 2024 election — still almost two years away? Why isn’t Trump traveling to #Ukraine and #Russia and pursuing negotiations NOW? We explore that question, as well as Trump’s chances of re-election, and the realistic possibilities of his ability to pursue a path of peace when the entire Military-Industrial-Complex wants #WWIII. We look at the historical examples of #FDR, #JFK, #Nixon and #Reagan — what happens to presidents who become inconvenient, or even hostile, to the interests of the permanent government, and the CIA? Trump certainly has his finger on the pulse of the people when it comes to the war in #Ukraine. According to the most recent polls, a strong majority of Americans don’t want the USA involved in this war at all. Today, 40% of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents say we are providing too much aid to Ukraine, up from 32% in the fall and much higher than the 9% who held this view in March of last year. Still, only 15% of Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents currently say this, up from 5% last March. About six-in-ten Democrats either say the U.S. is providing about the right amount of support to Ukraine (40%) or that the U.S. is not providing enough support (23%), according to a January 2023 Pew poll. According to Morning Consult’s U.S. Foreign Policy Tracker Index from January of 2023, nearly 40% of voters favor isolationism, while 30% want stability, and 17% want engagement. Among Democrats, 33% favor isolationism, 33% want stability, and 20% want engagement. Among Republicans, 45% favor isolationism, 28% want stability, and 15% want engagement. While these findings do indicate a divide between the parties on the issue, in both cases isolationism was the top answer or tied for the top answer. Neither side wants to be the world’s police. On this edition of Strange Bedfellows we speak to Caleb Maupin, American correspondent for #Moscow’s #Russia Today Television (#RT) — and ask him what it’s like to work at the most censored network in the world. Accused by the West of spreading propaganda about the Russian invasion of #Ukraine a year ago this month, the news network has been banned, sanctioned, and restricted on every major TV provider and most social media platforms such as YouTube. RT is completely banned in Canada and Western Europe. In September 2017, RT America was ordered to register as a foreign agent with the United States Department of Justice under the Foreign Agents Registration Act. (RT America was forced to close it’s doors in March 2022, after all platforms in the U.S. dropped the channel, essentially shutting it down.) We also talk with Caleb about the current war in #Ukraine; the causes that led to it, and why #Putin decided it was time to intervene.
