Many birds congregate at my sump pump drain hole, quenching their thirst with a drink of the water being flushed out. Recently, I got the foundation repair company to fix my sump pump, and now it is finally working, and the neighborhood birds cannot be more happy to have another water hole to play in. It was a beautiful warm Friday, almost 70° degrees on February 2nd, Groundhog Day, so I decided to stroll around in the backyard. And in doing so, I came across this strange object way in the back area of my yard. What the heck is it? It has the feel and look of a leaf, but it's formed in the half sphere, half ball shape. It's been sitting out there for a bit collecting other small leaves and a few small sticks. At first, I thought it was half of a rind or peel from some fruit-like Mellon, like a grapefruit or a cantaloupe. I had to pick up a few things for my brother at his house, and then take it to him at the Overland Park Regional Medical Center in Overland Park, Kansas off of I-435. For this drive, I magnet-mounted my Wolfang GA420 camera to the top of the Miata. In this video I mount my Wolfang GA420 action camera to the top of the Miata and drive home in the down pouring rain. Since my camera is waterproof, even without the clear case it comes with, I get the full effect of the raindrops and acoustics of the rains. On a nice sunny afternoon I take the Miata for a drive out to Olathe, Kansas to meet up with my nephew Alex and brother in law Mike, to check out a few apartments at The Villas At Ridgeview Falls, located near 119th Street and South Ridgeview Road. I began this video starting out in the Shawnee Mission West high school parking lot, then jumping onto I-35 to 95th Street, then Sante Fe Trail Drive out to 119th Street. The Villas is a very ritzy apartment complex, thus a bit pricey. A video of the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony in downtown Overland Park, Kansas. Now they are calling it the Mayor's Holiday Festival. We arrived a bit too late to the see mayor flip the switch to the Christmas tree. They now have the Christmas tree in Thompson Park, instead of at the Clock Tower. As you can see, the new tree is GIANT in size - about 4 to 5 stories tall! One has to wonder how much they paid for this fake tree. But you have to admit, it is impressive. We were able to enjoy some apple cider and cookies, but unfortunately all the hot cocoa was already gone. They had kids crafts, pony rides, train rides and a snow globe bouncy house for the kids. There was a big line in Thompson Park for the kids to meet Santa Claus. The group "Twice On Sunday" was performing on the Paper Airplane stage. Kids filled the playground area, which was dark with hardly any lighting, since kids usually don't play there after dark. Over at Strang Hall, they had a five person symphony "Happy Wanderers" playing Christmas music throughout the night. and a few crafts booths at the Maker's Market there in Strang Hall's parking lot. It turned out to be a very nice evening for the event, temperatures in the low 50°s. The event started at 5:00 PM and ran to 8:00 PM. We toured thru Overland Park Historical Society in their newly acquired building at corner of 80th and Sante Fe. Over by the Clock Tower they had hay rides going on through the night, while serving snacks and hot cocoa in the small park there. Christmas Carolers walked around while singing all night, and a roaming Grinch was on hand as well. Merry Christmas everyone! I had to go feed Zeus the other evening. It has been a while since I made a video of Zeus, so this provided that opportunity. The "Prima Donna" that Zeus is, he got all bent out of shape because I didn't feed him the moment I walked into the front door. To display his impatience, he jumped up onto the kitchen countertop to let his "need for food" be heard! It's quite amazing that with his added weight, he can STILL jump up that high and get up onto the kitchen countertop! Very impressive!
