PANIS ANGELICUS

The song Panis Angelicus is inspired by the adoration of the Holy Eucharist. Panis Angelicus is the penultimate stanza of the hymn "Sacris solemniis", written by Saint Thomas Aquinas to be liturgically sung on the Feast of Corpus Christi. The stanza of "sacris solemniis" that begins with the words "Panis Angelicus" (bread of angels) has been performed to music separately from the rest of the hymn in classical concerts. It is common in the Catholic Liturgy to use this Sacred Hymn also in Holy Week celebrations.
