Peru triggers Army as Lima and Callao experience chaos due to fuel prices and inflation

While protests in Lima have already caused four deaths and a trail of violence in the neighboring city of Callao, the Peruvian government has decided to employ military personnel from the Army, Air Force and Navy to help police forces contain the chaos.

Since March 28, the country has had road blockades and protests in certain locations due to rising fuel prices and inflation.

At first, the demonstrations were held by transport workers, but eventually workers from other sectors joined in.

In Lima, the government declared a state of emergency and a curfew that is in effect for 24 hours this Tuesday (5).
