Wargaming announces it will be closing its Minsk studio and handing over live services to an unaffiliated company
Wargaming, the studio behind popular online military games such as ‘World of Tanks,’ ‘World of Warships’ and ‘World of Warplanes,’ has announced it will be completely shutting down operations in Russia and in its ‘native’ Belarus, where it was founded and is the biggest gaming company in the country.

It announced the decision in a statement posted to its website as well as LinkedIn, saying it had already started the process of closing its studio in Minsk and has transferred the business of operating its games in Russia and Belarus to Lesta Studio – a Russian developer that Wargaming acquired in 2011 but is now “no longer affiliated” with the company.

“The company will not profit from this process either today or going forward. Much to the contrary we expect to suffer substantial losses as a direct result of this decision,” Wargaming admitted in the statement.

Game publisher and developer Wargaming has announced its decision to withdraw from the Russian and Belarusian markets. This was reported on the company's page on LinkedIn.

"The company has decided that it will not own or operate a business in Russia and Belarus and will leave both countries," Wargaming said in a statement. The organization said it had made the decision to withdraw and close country offices following a strategic review of business operations around the world in recent weeks. On March 31, the company reportedly transferred its gaming business in Russia and Belarus to the local management of Lesta Studio, which is no longer affiliated with Wargaming.

“The team is just in a trance, no one expected this”: employees of the Minsk office of Wargaming spoke aboutclosing
They learned about the company's decision right on the day of the public announcement.
Wargaming employees answered questions from dev.by about the closure of the studio in Minsk and the cessation of work in Belarus.

Employees learned about the company's decision to close the Minsk office only on April 4. Prior to that, they were informed that the office would continue to work.
Studio employees received a letter signed by Viktor Kisly, the founder and head of Wargaming, similar to what was previously posted on the company's website.
Wargaming has begun the process of gradually closing its studio in Minsk and will conduct it in strict accordance with the law. Product and service leaders will be meeting with their teams shortly to elaborate on how this decision will affect each department.

We will provide compensation and support to those employees affected by this decision to the maximum extent possible."
