The generals of the Ming Dynasty who fought in Joseon during the Japanese Invasion of Imjin had the experience of seeing the spirit of Guan Yu and erected tombs of the kings in various places. After receiving this report, the Ming dynasty requested that Joseon build a tomb for King Gwanwang after the war ended. The Ming dynasty gave support for construction funds along with a handwritten signboard. The walls are made of stone and mud and cover 9,315 m². The central building of Dongguan Wang Tomb consists of two buildings adjoining the front and back, a structure commonly found in Chinese temples and shrines. The roof is in the shape of a 'Gong (工)', a combination of a high 'Jeong (丁)' and 'I' (一). The interior space is also divided into the front and back. The front is the front room for ceremonies, and the back is the main room with statues of Gwan-wu and his subordinates. Outside the bricks surrounding the front and main rooms, pillars are placed again to support the eaves. Gwanwangmyo was built in the east, west, north, and south of Seoul. Among them, Donggwanwangmyo is the largest and most splendid. It is a 17th century ancestral facility that shows the appearance of Chinese architecture in its wide brick walls, unique roof shape, statues, and interior composition and decoration. It is a place of important historical value. Namgwanwangmyo was managed by the court and ancestral rites were held in the royal family, but in 1908 (the 2nd year of Yonghui), the ritual was abolished due to the ordinance of Hyangsai, etc. Outside Namdaemun, there was the tomb of King Namgwan, which was built earlier than the tomb of Dongmyo. The tombs of King Namgwan were moved to another location, and the tombs of King Bukgwan and King Seogwan were demolished by the Government-General of Korea. Nearby is Dongmyomae Station on Line 1 and Line 6 of the Metropolitan Subway. In October 2011, Unryongdo was discovered behind the gilt-bronze Gwanwu statue in Dongmyo, behind Ilwoloakdo Island. The discovered Unryongdo was under investigation and was originally covered with Ilwoloakdo.
