This video (the second of two parts) is a recording of a mass celebrated in the Log Chapel at the University of Notre Dame on February 10, 2022. This is the anniversary of the death of Fr. Benjamin Petit, a french priest who served the Potawatomi tribe in Northern Indiana/Southern Michigan through their forced march in 1838 from Twin Lakes, IN to Saint Mary's Sugar Creek Mission near Osawatomie, Kansas. Fr. Petit accompanied the 849 members of the tribe for the 660 mile journey, on which 40 persons (mostly children) died. On his return trip to Indiana, Fr. Petit died at the Jesuit seminary in St. Louis (present day Saint Louis University) two months short of 30 years of age. Celebrant of the mass is Fr. Paul Doyle, C.S.C. Gus Zuehlke organized the event and read the reflection after the blessing of candles, both of which and the mass that followed are recorded in this part 1 (through the prayer of the faithful); the mass concludes in part 2.
