Want To Become A Better Writer? Start Editing! #shorts

A lot of people love writing but hate editing. But Toni Morrison calls “identifying the bad writing” one of the most important parts of writing.

The Nobel laureate and author of “The Bluest Eye”, “Song of Solomon” and “Beloved”, advocated (and practised) relentless editing.

In her words, “The problem is, first, to know when you are not writing well and, then, to be able to fix it. It's craftsman-like problems.”

In fact, after finishing her first book “The Bluest Eye”, she sat down and rewrote the whole book all over again. How’s that for commitment to ones craft?

No wonder Ms. Morrison’s writing has been described as words that sing off the page.
