Yes I Swam With a Stoma | Ileostomate | IBD Life

Yes, you can swim in the ocean (or lake, pool etc…) successfully with an ostomy secured to your belly. The ostomy appliance is designed to withstand showers and swimming. If you have a good seal, GO!

Because of multiple medical issues I don’t get to the beach much but I just had this overwhelming desire on this day to go for a dunk.

With so much uncertainty - not just with my body on any given day but in this world - sometimes you just have to say “take me to the beach”! For me, in the middle of the summer, that means a break in the oppressive heat. God blessed us with that today and I got my first dunk in the ocean in many years.

Because I live with an ostomy - and that has its own challenges - I had to be confident enough that dunking was doable and if you know anyone that struggles as well, let them know. IT IS! Tell them just to do it - don’t wait because tomorrow isn’t promised.
