Limiting beliefs rattle around your head and start working at the worst possible times. Are you tired of feeling like you're not good enough? Of feeling like you can't do anything right?

How many times have you told yourself "I can't do that" or "I'm not good enough"? If you're like most people, the answer is a lot. But what if you could change those thoughts and start believing in yourself?

If you've been feeling like you're stuck in a rut, like you're not living up to your potential, it might be because of your limiting beliefs.

It's possible to break the cycle of limiting beliefs and change the thought process. Limiting beliefs stop us in our tracks from pursuing dreams and even meeting new people. It's not impossible to overcome them. You just need to be willing to work on it.

Let's define what a limiting belief is.
A limiting belief is a statement that something about yourself, others, or the world is true. Most of our limiting beliefs originate in childhood and can have long-term consequences on our lives.

Identifying your limiting beliefs is the first step in conquering them.
Once you know what they are, you can start to work on changing them. Sometimes, this process can be difficult and it may feel like you're swimming against the current. But, if you persist and keep working at it, you will eventually break through the limiting beliefs that have been holding you back.
Examples of limiting beliefs are:
"I'm not smart enough."
"I'm a failure."
"I'm going to be abandoned."

Stop identifying with that belief.
If you believe you are not smart enough, the next step is to stop identifying yourself with that belief in mind, that is, as a not smart enough person. Accept that this is simply a belief rather than reality. What you think becomes what you have, therefore start by changing your thoughts. Flip that limiting belief statement. For example, "I am a genius".

Strengthen the new belief.
You've made it through the first three phases. You want some results, so now is the time to act! It's critical to build on this new empowering belief after you've incorporated your new way of thinking. Thoughts are like "paper creases". Once you put a crease in paper, you can never uncrease the paper. It will take some time to create new, crease in your brain that is empowering.

Consider how you can contribute to the growth of this new way of thinking. Some ideas might be:
– What fresh actions can I practice?
– What new habits could I establish around the new beliefs?
– What affirmations could I use to reprogram this limiting belief?

If you think you can’t do something, ask yourself why and what hard evidence you have for that view. I guarantee that most of the limits we place on ourselves have no real evidence or truth to them.

Consider carefully why you believe you can't accomplish something and what hard evidence you have to support your position.

Don't be a victim of your own mind.
Repeating negative beliefs will keep you from moving forward. Stop the cycle of limiting beliefs and start working towards your dreams. It is simple, but it will not be easy. It will be worthwhile in the end.
