Charity is when you invest time & effort into changing the life of someone who is less fortunate, for the better. Charity is taking personal accountability for seeing that this change is affected in the desired fashion.

Above all, charity is imparting onto the person whose live you have affected - that they should do so to others, when given the opportunity.

This holiday season, do not donate a couch to goodwill or select the box to give $1 to charity when checking out online and think you're done. Do something that requires effort. Change someone's life for the better.

When you do this, you will be at peace saying "no" when a charitable organization asks you for money, and you choose to not donate. I know I am.
