As I continue to switch my connected home from a hub-based to a hub free setup I am pleased to add this plug to my network. At just £14.99 this is at the low end of the price range but does not seem to compromise on quality or features. It is worth noting that unlike many rivals this plug can handle a maximum load of up to 13-16A at 3120w and should work with heaters, kettles or other high power devices. It can be used with the native Lumary app or the widely used Smart Life app.

I still have some smart wifi devices at home that work with my Amazon Echo and Google Home systems but some need a hub to connect to the router. The latest generation of IOT products, like this socket from Lumary, require no hub and connect directly to the router. The plug is recognised by Amazon Alexa and Google and blends seamlessly into their home automation systems.

In the simple but basic product box was the plug itself and a well written and easy to read User Guide. The Guide assists in using the Lumary app and in linking the device to Amazon Alexa and Google Home. However, it is not really needed as both the Lumary and Smart Life app walks you through the whole setup procedure.

The plug itself is well made, nicely designed and feels robust enough for long-term everyday use. It is smaller in size than many rivals and less obtrusive in use. I was pleased to see that it is not too wide and should fit fine into a multi-socket wall fixture. It has a large power/wifi status LED on the side which doubles as a proper clicky Off/On button.

Setting it up using the Smart Life app was easy enough and can all be done by following the in-app instructions. There is no need to reset the plug when installing straight from the box, just open the app and begin the procedure to add a new wifi plug device. Plug the socket in and the LED starts flashing quickly, select the Socket (Wifi) device type from the list in the app, input your wifi password, let the app detect the device on the network and guide you through the rest of the simple configuration steps. The switch can then be controlled by the app and you can add the plug to Alexa and Google Home ecosystems just as easily with the app to walk you through it. The only possible issue you may encounter, and this is true for almost all smart devices, will be if your phone is on a 5Ghz network stream and cannot talk to the 2.4Ghz smart plug. If that is the case then just switch off the 5 GHz stream on your router or disable it on your phone.

Both apps are excellent and do much more than just allowing you to add the plug to Alexa and Google. The app will also allow the plug to be triggered by events such as you entering and leaving the house, sunrise/sunset, etc and will work in conjunction with a wide range of wifi devices from the same or many other manufacturers. However, I doubt most users will use the app but will control the plug just through voice, as I do.

This is an excellent product in its own right and when integrated with Alexa or Google really can start to transform your home. I have seen many similar products from other suppliers but this one has to be one of the most compact and easiest to set up yet.
