LAREDO, TX – Bodycam footage was released from an incident in late March where Texas DPS officers along with Border Patrol agents discovered a woman trapped in a duffel bag that was inside of a burning vehicle reportedly abandoned by smugglers.

The incident reportedly occurred on March 24th, which started off with Border Patrol pursuing a vehicle on I-35 in Webb County and eventually going into La Salle County.

Texas DPS had joined along in the pursuit that had ended in La Salle County after the driver of the vehicle had crashed, resulting in the vehicle catching fire. The driver of the vehicle being pursued reportedly jumped out of the vehicle following the crash.

As DPS and Border Patrol were on the scene, bodycam footage showcases the burning vehicle, with one of the agents on scene yelling, “There’s a female in the back.” Agents and officers worked to remove the duffel bag from out of the rear of the vehicle, which, when unzipped, a woman crawled out of the bag.

The identity of the driver was not released by officials; however, authorities did confirm that the individual was taken into custody.

Texas DPS have been collaborating with Border Patrol in an effort to help address the concerning levels of illegal immigration impacting the state following the enactment of Operation Lone Star, which Governor Greg Abbott launched back in March of 2021.
