Within each of us are strongholds. There are fortresses of arguments and pretensions attempting to keep a foothold.These strongholds are the yet renewed parts of our mind, fostered by years of separation from God.

Peter had strongholds, wrong thinking about the Messiah (Christ) and what that meant. How he used his gifts were informed by his past.
