Passing Through Judgment
39th in our series the Book of 1 Peter

I. In the Days of Noah - 1 Peter 3:19-21
A. Eight souls were saved through the flood
1. They were not exempted from the presence of God’s fierce judgment on earth
2. They were saved in the midst of that judgment - Genesis 6:17-18; 7:1, 4-6, 11, 17-21
a. The very same water which drowned the whole wicked world was the salvation of Noah and his family
b. As they came out of the Ark the Old world was done away with, behold everything was New - Genesis 9:1-3
B. Antitype - the fulfillment or completion of an earlier truth prophetically revealed in God's Word
1. For example the first Adam and Jesus the second - 1 Corinthians 15:22
a. Adam in Genesis was the Type
b. Jesus the Second Adam is the Antitype
2. The idea is that the O.T. contains the shadow while the N.T. contains the very image - Hebrews 10:1
II. The Ark Saved Noah from the Flood …
A. In the same way the Cross Saves us from the wrath to come
1. Physical baptism doesn’t save, it is the spiritual transaction of coming to faith in Christ - spiritual baptism by which we are saved - Titus 3:5
2. We are baptized into the Holy Spirit the moment we repent, believe and receive Jesus Christ - Romans 6:3-6
B. There is a parallel in the terrible judgment which will fall upon this earth - Revelation 6:11
1. The saints are in the tribulation yet saved by the cross
2. Saved even as though through martyrdom
- Revelation 13:16-17
