Margareta Gertruida Zelle better known as the stage name Mata Hari. She was a Dutch exotic dancer and courtesan convicted of spying for Germany during World War I. Even though she confessed under interrogation to taking money to work as a German spy, many people still think she was innocent. But France needed a scapegoat. For her accusations, she was shot on October 15, 1917.
