The Broken Eagle
Back at the beginning of 2021 I held a contest to design and build a Star Wars themed Lego Ship to replace the recenltly destroyed RazorCrest front the Mandalorian. There were many great entries, and I was happy to see the insane amount of creativity displayed in the entries.

Of course, outside the contest, I started designing my own ship...the Broken Eagle.

It started with a few core design choices. I knew that It needed to be half a ship. A ship that had been cut in half, or lost half of it (better), or was just designed to feel off. This was to represent that Mando was now half a clan without Grogu by his side. The next was that it was going to be a single-level ship, rather than the 2-story that we saw from the Crest. The multiple levels kind of insinuated that Din Djarin wasn’t focused on any single thing, but that he was split in many different directions. A single level would demonstrate that he was single-minded. A few other ideas kept me going, including a window at the back of the ship, signifying his need to look behind him metaphorically at his time with the Child, and that the ship would be a salvaged affair, just as he is. Am I overthinking this? Nah, this works great!

From there it was all about finding the shape. Designing a ship, and then ripping half of it off. Or, you know, close to half. After playing around, I discovered what became the final design, which of course was refined over time, and developed a completely new story all by itself. I would go over more of these things now, but I cover pretty much all of it in my video on youtube that you can check out here:)

Thanks for looking, I hope you enjoy it!
