Fracking in the early 1900's

In the late 1800's and into the 1900's, oil and gas companies would "shoot" a well to get it flowing again. They would gently place a large can with 60-200 quarts of nitroglycerin at the bottom of the vertical well then drop a "torpedo" and watch it blow!

Today we call that re-stimulating or re-fracking a well.
