The Berkeley Pit in Butte Montana is an EPA Superfund Clean-up site, that is also a year round tourist attraction. People pay to see the the body of water at the base of this mining site, that is extremely toxic. It's true. But you are in Butte there is also another tourist attraction, the Mineral Museum that is free but a very interesting about an hour of your time, seeing the minerals that lay underground, including a glow in the dark mineral room.
