Why was God a Brutal Meany in the Old Testament? Let me Explain!|✝

Most Christian books, shows and movies these days depict God as kind, loving and forgiving. However, if you take a peek in the Old Testament God seems like the exact opposite, vengeful and jealous. Of course, you have the Noah flood story. Which many can let slide because it was sort of a "natural disaster." However, in books like Joshua God commands His people to invade a nation and kill every man, woman and child! This seems to directly contradict with New Testament teachings like when Jesus says turn the other cheek and treat your neighbor as yourself. Is this apparent contradiction a sign that the Bible is wrong? Is there an explanation that doesn't require so much hand waving it needs to be done on a helipad? Yes, there is! Let me explain why!
