Good Ride Jeff "Bluesman" Langdale tribute by Matt Nappo

My brother Jeff left the stage for the last time Labor Day weekend 2021. He was a hard man to love, a hard man to live with and an arrogant, nasty drunk and we loved him anyway.
We worked together, we went to school together, we skipped school, we traveled, we made music and had wild adventures and we refused t o grow up.

He was my muse. He was to me what Levon Helm was to Robbie Robertson. Without him I would have had little inspiration to document the adventures of our youth.

Good Ride

Bluesman lost his saddle riding somewhere in Seattle
He’s busted flat and he won’t be right back
And me I’m running cattle still losing all my battles
I had my money bet on brother Jack
he was bound and determined to drink himself to hell
I guess I taught him all too well
I hope he’s satisfied
and he had a damned good ride
I hope he had damned good ride

Nicey’s in the kitchen, Lord knows what she’s fixing
But memories are always made with love
And Jeffy’s on a mission but lately he’s gone missing
Cause somehow there was never quite enough
When the fighter’s counted out it feels like such a shame
With no one left left to blame
It’s just pride
Hope he had a damned good ride
Hope he had a damned good ride

You can blame it on the alcohol , but ya
Didn’t hang around for last call
Life was just a little too tall
You got is high that you were bound to fall

Bootie’s got a bottle and Bluesman found a home
But I can hear the music playing still
Live your life full throttle and maybe you’ll die alone
The band will always have a space to fill
And when the song is over another one begins
I promised him one to say goodbye
Hope he had a damned good ride
Hope he had a damned good ride

Ride on Bluesman ride
