Axiom Champ Slingshot Owners Manual - Set up your new slingshot!
The Axiom Champ is the smallest slingshot frame from SimpleShot. And one of the ways that it remains so tiny is by its band attachment (good old tie-ins). FlipClips remain a simple way to attach bands and they are loved world-wide. The Ocularis system is ingenious and super-simple to attach bands in any orientation. But for the slimmest profile, and staying true to the history of this minimalist slingshot frame, the Axiom Champ just gets its bands tied on.
Setup of the Axiom Champ slingshot is a breeze. If you've never tied bands onto a slingshot frame before, don't worry. It takes a little practice and you'll have it down in no time.
First, make sure you put your lanyard on the frame for safety (and as we always remind you, wear safety glasses at all times). Just slip the lanyard through the hole in the handle, and tie off the ends to fit you with a simple overhand knot.
Then, it's time to attach the bands.
Make sure that you tune your bands before attaching them for peak performance as you desire.

We supply you with about a yard / meter of tie in tape to attach your bandset to your slingshot frame. Just cut off a piece that suits (we use around 10 inches to be safe) and use it to tie on your bandset. For this frame, we recommend a wrap or two as a base layer then placing your bandset on top of that base wrap before you start securing the bands.
This may actually be the most difficult part of the whole process so don't get discouraged! Once this base wrap is down, you just have to keep it under pressure: keep stretching and don't let go or it will pop loose and you'll have to start over.
Then make sure you give at least three good wraps, stretching the material tight the entire time as you wrap. And then fold up the end of the band and give a few more wraps.
Here's what it all comes down to. You need to place your thumb or a device of your choosing on top of the bands as you make your final two wraps. Then you capture the tag end of the tie-in tape and pull it under these final wraps to tie it off. You can use your thumb or you could use hemostats, tweezers, or even the end of your lanyard.
We demonstrate in this video using your thumb or the lanyard.
This is a process that takes practice to master, so don't be disappointed if it takes a few tries to get it right. Once you've done it a few times, it won't be difficult at all anymore.
