Coney Island is a residential Brooklyn neighborhood that morphs into a relaxation and entertainment destination each summer. Locals and tourists crowd its beach, the Wonder Wheel and Luna Park, an amusement park featuring the famed Cyclone roller coaster. Coney Island will close its 2021 season with a bang, as its final fireworks show proves the “People’s Playground” is not ready for summer to end.

Coney Island End of Summer fireworks display

On Friday, Sept. 10, Coney Island Beach at West 12th Street will host an “End of Summer” fireworks display, starting at 8 p.m. and ending at 9 p.m.

This marks the first time the Alliance for Coney Island has added a special, additional fireworks show to its regular summertime lineup.

The COVID-19 pandemic caused the temporary closure of several of the area’s businesses in 2020, making the 2021 beach season even more thrilling as thousands of revelers returned to the peninsula.

As the fireworks spectacular brings the season to a close, many of the local amusements will being to operate on weekends only, while remaining closed on certain holidays, including Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Sukkot, and Italian Heritage Day/Indigenous People’s Day.

With the arrival of Fall’s cooler weather in the country’s northeastern states, Coney Island’s restaurants, shops, and the New York Aquarium will maintain their daily opening schedules so that visitors can continue to enjoy vacation time in the “People’s Playground.”

The beach and the boardwalk will continue to be open daily for walking.

The Alliance for Coney Island is eager to welcome tourists as they celebrate the last of summer’s fun before students return to school.

“We are excited to provide a final fireworks show for the 2021 season,” said Alexandra Silversmith, executive director of the Alliance for Coney Island. “Fridays have been a major highlight of summer with fireworks helping to stimulate our economy and support our businesses. A huge thank you to Garden State Fireworks for their work and partnership throughout the years to bring these shows to Coney Island! We hope New Yorkers will join us and enjoy this final show.”
