Joyce Gilliard on being the hair department head on major movie sets

Little did Joyce Gilliard know when she was a child in her grandmother’s hair salon that she would be able to bottle up those skills and travel around the world as the hair department head on the set of major motion pictures. Gilliard the hair department head for 2022 SXSW selected film A Lot of Nothing and the founder of her own film set safety organization. Joyce, who is now making her own short films, is also the first Black woman to be named to the hair and makeup union based in New York.
