Welcome to Modern Homestead Alaska.

When we started building our amazing modern homestead in Alaska, we knew we wanted to heat with wood. The question quickly came what would be our alternate heat source? The question was answered with pellet.

When you intend to hear with only wood the need arises when you can’t be on the homestead then what?
You can look into all sorts of alternatives such as propane, oil, electric. The list goes on. For our family we landed on this Comfort Bilt

Comfort Bilt is the pellet stove we went with. You can find them here https://youtube.com/channel/UCliCkwEYSXP2dAhKz-Y8ZEA

It has been an amazing stove.

The Alaskan winter has been hard on us all this year in August we had a time getting pellets. Home Depot had them but only one store in all of Alaska had them. We made the drive over an hour 4 times to secure 6 pallets of pellets.

In November Alaska had record low temperatures with 15 days dipping below freezing and so diving as far as -21 degrees. That 52 degrees below freezing!

In December of 2021 we dipped a impressive 9 days below zero.

So in January or 2022 we are very happy to be heating with wood and having our pellet stove as back up as intended. We look forward to many years to come heating in the Alaskan Winter.

Thank you for spending some time with us.
