Night of the Living Dead is the first feature by George Romero, and is widely hailed as the first modern zombie movie; and has earned Romero the moniker of the godfather of zombie movies.
It fell into public domain accidentally when the distributor of the film forgot to put the required copyright notices on the theatrical prints of the movie.
