Switchgrass, NWSG, Wildlife Habitat and INVASIVE SPECIES

This is a video about a 4 year project establishing switchgrass and other NWSG. The first year you have to kill off everything in the Fall. The second year starting in the Spring you have to kill off everything, put down a pre-emergent and then plant your grasses. The seed can also be frost seeded which we did last year in certain locations, or it can be drilled (which we initially did). Switchgrass is slow to establish and takes nurturing in the first years of development. But once established it will choke/crowd out other competing broadleaves and/or
grasses. It is great screening, fantastic thermal cover and excellent wildlife habitat. Deer love to bed in it and it provides secure nesting cover for quail, turkey and rabbits.
