On a 2018 episode of 48 Hours, Peter Van Sant investigates a missing persons cold-case in Bradley County Tennessee. District Attorney General, Steve Crump leads the investigation.
After promising the victim's family justice, Crump worked with the TBI to collect a wealth of evidence against her husband (whom was previously charged with her murder but dropped). After charging the husband for a second time, Crump announced that he would drop the charges against him out of fears that he couldn't convince a judge to bring the case to trial.
This led to Sant interjecting: "... I just feel like there's some INCOMPETENCE here."

Crump not only failed to bring justice to the victim and her family, but he also sent a message to the world that one can possibly get away with murder under his watch.
