Prince William expresses "profound sorrow" for slavery during speech in Jamaica

Britain's Prince William expressed “profound sorrow” on Wednesday over the “appalling atrocity of slavery” during a speech in Kingston, Jamaica.
On day two of his trip to the Caribbean nation with his wife Kate, William addressed an audience hosted by the governor-general of Jamaica Patrick Allen and expressed that the pain of slavery "runs deep."
The speech made reference to the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade, which takes place on March 25. William echoed a statement made by his father, the Prince of Wales who last year in Barbados said slavery "forever stains our history."
The Royals also met with Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness, who told William and his wife Kate that his country wants to be "independent" and to address "unresolved" issues, as protesters called on the United Kingdom to pay reparations for slavery.
