Tennessee Tenth Judicial District Attorney General Steve Crump, accused of suppressing evidence of his own wrongdoing when a secret recording is recovered via a FOIA request.

The recording in question was of the siblings of a 2016 Cleveland, TN murder victim who alleged that one of them had had an affair with Mr. Crump and that they were blackmailing him in order to secure a conviction against the killer.

Though this recording was submitted to the lead detective of the investigation, it never made it to the 2019 trial as evidence.

When word finally broke out about the recording in 2020, Crump made an official statement to the Chattanooga Times Free press where he refuted the allegations of wrongdoing and claimed to have known about the existence of the recording but was not aware of its content, though a statement from the Cleveland Police Department tells a different story.
