Volodymyr Zelensky holds call with Pope Francis

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has pleaded with Pope Francis to mediate with Russia.
The pair held a phone call earlier today to discuss the humanitarian crisis facing Ukraine and the escalating violence from Russian troops.
Mr Zelensky posted on social media the Pope was receptive to the call for peace.
"Told His Holiness about the difficult humanitarian situation and the blocking of rescue corridors by Russian troops,” he said.
“The mediating role of the Holy See in ending human suffering would be appreciated."
