Why is a cat named Maine Coon?

The Maine Coon is a breed of cat that is descended from the American cats of Maine. "Coon" means "raccoon," a characteristic the animal got because of the fluffy tail, similar to the tail of a gray animal.
Another feature of the breed is the tassels on the ears, like a lynx.
Maine Coons have an easy-going nature, they do not require special care, they like to play, jump and do tricks. They are calm, balanced, independent, intelligent. With a hundred percent guarantee not to let the owner get bored in their company.
