Honesty

Do you know the passage where Jesus said, "Let your yes be yes, and your no, no"? (Mt. 5:37). What does that mean.

Hello, I'm Clarence, I'm the preacher, and I'm going to give you the simple answer that apparently many people don't understand, especially politicians.

Jesus is simply teaching us to be honest. It's just that simple. The modern practice of saying one thing and doing another is nothing new. Many, many people would rather twist and spin the truth, rather than just be honest. The old idea that honesty is the best policy is one of the least accepted idea.

The apostle Paul wrote that we should put, "…away lying, "LET EACH ONE OF YOU SPEAK TRUTH WITH HIS NEIGHBOR," for we are members of one another."
Ephesians 4:25 (NKJV)

Lying and twisting the truth is a shortcut lazy people use, but there are people that don't lie. There are people that know how to tell the truth even when it doesn't work to their advantage.

We could use more people like that in the world. Just have a little fun and imagine how the world might better if people learned to be honest and do the right thing because it was the right thing to do.

Lying is the weirdest thing. People hate being lied to, but they will lie to themselves. If you protect a person from an external lie, they are grateful. If you try to protect a person from an internal lie, they will take your head off. I would say that learning to be honest with yourself if just as important as being honest with other.

Let me add one last comment and I will close. Eph. 4:15 tells us to speak the truth in love. Being honest is not about being mean or harsh. I realize that all truths are not pleasant, but all truths can be spoken in a considerate and constructive manner. Sadly, many people are just to lazy to figure out how to speak the truth in love and come across and mean, hateful, and uncaring.
