I wanted a tracker but not one that was too complicated or fiddly to use. The Fitbit Inspire 2 seemed a good choice as it monitors all the key metrics and displays them clearly and attractively in the Fitbit app. I have used Fitbit devices myself off and on for years and although not inexpensive they have always proved to be accurate, reliable and easy to use.
In the box are the Inspire 2 with standard sized band fitted, extra large band, charging cable, and a short quick-start guide. Build quality, as to be expected with Fitbit, is first rate and the product has a distinctly premium look and feel to it.
The band itself is small and neat with a PMOLED display that is bright and clear but small, hard to read and not in colour. Although everything can be accessed on the band, due to the small screen with no always-on mode, I find myself using the app most of the time to control and monitor the health metrics.
Currently priced at just £59 it includes a year of the Fitbit premium service which offers advanced training routines with enhanced sleep and other data that some users may appreciate. I cannot say there is much about the premium service that appeals to me but since it is thrown in for free then why not. I signed up for it but then immediately cancelled it through Google Play to prevent it from being automatically renewed in a year's time, priced £79.
The tracker itself is well made and has a quality feel to it and works very well with all the basic features covered - 24/7 heart rate, steps, distance, calories burned, sleep, sports activity tracking - with an excellent battery life of up to 10 days. There is no built-in GPS, which I doubt will trouble most users, but it will automatically connect to your phone's GPS when you start a run and show the route in the Fitbit app. The app, I must say, is simple, easy to read with the most user-friendly display of any health tracking app I have tried. In fact, access to the Fitbit app is probably the most compelling reason to buy this tracker as there are many cheaper and better specified rivals available.
If you need a basic no nonsense tracker which works well, covers all the basics, and gives you access the perhaps the best health tracking ecosystem available, then this might be the one to go for.
