Opening a St. Patrick’s Day speech with an Irish joke might have seemed like a good idea - but Joe Biden managed to mangle it into an offensive statement instead:

“I may be Irish, but I’m not stupid.” Irish officials in the room reportedly made no reaction, but at least some obediently chuckled at the old stereotype Biden had trotted out in 2020 and 2015.

Rep. Congressman Thomas Massie spoke for many when he quipped back: “Is either assertion true?”
