In 1218, King Alfonso IX of Leon transforms the cathedral school in General Survey and University of Salamanca, taught classes in the cloister of the old cathedral, until in the fourteenth and fifteenth move to the new buildings. The monarch Alfonso X granted various privileges to teachers and students, reason begins to have own buildings. In the fourteenth century and was considered one of the four great European universities, with Bologna, Paris and Oxford.
The prestige of the University grows in the fifteenth century by the momentum builder of the Catholic Monarchs and the protection of Cardinal Cisneros: Senior Schools (1415), colleges and seminaries that come to occupy a large area west of the University, new units as the Hospital Survey, and the founding of the Little Schools (1428). Intense buildings with large high-volume monumental facades, which are shown in this video, that arise independently of their environment, in clear contradiction to the narrow medieval road network.
