At least one person was killed, and 4 wounded, after parts of a Russian missile fell on a residential building in the northern part of the Ukrainian capital Kyiv on Friday morning, emergencies services in the city said.

The services said in a statement that 12 people were rescued and 98 were evacuated from the 5-storey residential building.

In the eastern Ukrainian city of Donetsk, controlled by Russian-backed separatist forces, at least four people were killed on Friday when a shell hit a residential building, a Reuters witness said.

The building resident, 18-year-old Yekaterina, told Reuters the shell hit around 7:30 in the morning local time, with the subsequent explosion causing heavy damage to her neighbour's apartment.

Russia sent tens of thousands of troops into Ukraine on Feb. 24 in what it called a special operation to degrade its southern neighbour’s military capabilities and root out people it called dangerous nationalists.
